Hospital Overview

General introduction, specialty highlights and Dovecure cross-border partnership.

Shanghai Children's Medical Center, affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine (hereinafter referred to as "SCMC"), is a tertiary Class A children's specialty hospital integrating medical care, scientific research, and education. It was jointly established by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and Project HOPE in the 1990s, officially opened in 1998, and was approved as the National Children's Medical Center in 2017. SCMC is a construction unit of the "211 Project" and "985 Project," with two campuses in Lujiazui and Zhangjiang, totaling 1,500 approved beds. It boasts 12 national key disciplines and national clinical key specialties, has been awarded the Shanghai Municipal Government Quality Gold Award, and has been selected as a pilot unit for the high-quality development of public hospitals in Shanghai. The hospital has successively managed four National Children's Regional Medical Centers—Fujian Hospital, Hainan Hospital, Guizhou Hospital, and Linyi Hospital—effectively promoting the decentralization of high-quality medical resources and continuously advancing the construction of the National Children's Medical Center Specialty Alliance and the Shanghai Eastern Pediatric Medical Consortium. SCMC's multidisciplinary joint diagnosis and treatment platform and pediatric clinical research platform enjoy a high reputation both domestically and internationally, particularly playing a leading role in fields such as pediatric cardiovascular diseases, pediatric hematology and oncology, developmental behavioral pediatrics, pediatric critical care, and rare diseases. Focusing on three major directions—"Complex and Severe Pediatric Diseases," "Pediatric Health Management," and "Innovative Pediatric Drugs, Devices, and Therapies"—the hospital has established a full-chain translational medicine platform from basic research to clinical application. In recent years, it has successively established cutting-edge research bases, including the National Health Commission Key Laboratory of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, the Shanghai Clinical Research Center for Pediatric Rare Diseases, the Shanghai Key Laboratory of Pediatric Clinical Molecular Diagnostics, and the Shanghai Key Laboratory of Pediatric Brain Development. Under the brand "Pediatrics of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine," SCMC has been approved as a National Key Base for Standardized Residency Training and has established a pediatric clinical training center featuring virtual simulation and simulation-based teaching. It has established cooperative relationships with over 30 medical institutions in more than 10 countries, set up 8 international joint laboratories and bases, and closely follows the latest international developments in pediatrics. With the upgrade of infrastructure at the Lujiazui campus and the new opening of the Zhangjiang campus, the hospital's development will face new opportunities and challenges. In the future, we will advance with high-quality development, making greater contributions to supporting Shanghai's goal of becoming an Asian medical center and fully realizing the Healthy China strategy.
