Department Details
The Department of Gastroenterology has independent inpatient wards, outpatient clinics, an endoscopy center, and a gastrointestinal motility laboratory. It is a department integrating clinical practice, scientific research, and teaching. It serves as the Shanghai Children's Liver Disease Center and the Children's Biliary and Pancreatic Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center.
The department currently has 10 specialist physicians, including 1 senior chief physician, 2 associate senior physicians, 3 attending physicians, 4 senior residents, 2 with doctoral degrees, and 7 with master's degrees. It participates in postgraduate training and is a master's degree training site.
The annual outpatient volume of the Department of Gastroenterology exceeds 10,000 patients, with over 2,000 gastroscopy and colonoscopy procedures performed per year, and more than 100 ERCP procedures annually. The number and complexity of ERCP surgeries rank among the top in pediatric hospitals nationwide. The department has extensive experience in diagnosing and treating hepatobiliary and pancreatic diseases in children, acute and chronic diarrhea, dyspepsia, cow's milk protein allergy in infants, abdominal pain, vomiting, eosinophilic gastroenteritis, allergic gastroenteritis, gastroesophageal reflux, gastrointestinal bleeding, Helicobacter pylori infection, gastritis, peptic ulcers, inflammatory bowel disease, acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis, recurrent pancreatitis, and cholestatic liver disease. Endoscopic procedures are performed on adolescents, infants, and neonates, and minimally invasive endoscopic treatments include polypectomy, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy, foreign body removal, esophageal stricture dilation, endoscopic variceal ligation and sclerotherapy for esophagogastric variceal bleeding, ERCP, and duodenal diaphragm resection. The department is equipped with capsule endoscopy, 24-hour esophageal pH monitoring, anorectal manometry, and esophageal manometry, placing its clinical diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities at the forefront nationally.
