The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, abbreviated as FAH-SYSU, is a tertiary Grade A general hospital located in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. The hospital comprises four parts: the main campus, the East Campus, the Nansha Hospital, and the Huiya Hospital. It has 5 national key disciplines and 30 national clinical key specialties, ranking 6th nationwide and 1st in South China on the Fudan version of the Chinese Hospital Rankings. [11] The hospital has been selected as one of the first batch of province-commissioned comprehensive national regional medical centers and one of the first batch of guided national medical center construction units. The hospital was founded in 1910, originally as the Affiliated Hospital of Guangdong Public Medical School, and was incorporated into Sun Yat-sen University in 1925. [11] In 2018, it was designated by the National Health Commission as one of the first pilot hospitals for multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment of tumors. In 2020, it received the "2020 National Excellent Case of Smart Hospital Construction" award and was recognized as a "Satisfactory Medical Institution Department" for the year. In 2021, the hospital successfully performed the world's first "ischemia-free" heart transplant surgery, and Cheng Shouzhen, the director of the nursing department, was awarded the 48th Florence Nightingale Medal. In 2022, the hospital's nephrology department was named one of the eighth batch of Guangdong Province's "Learning from Lei Feng" demonstration sites, and the "Multi-Organ Function Assessment and Repair Center" was established. In 2023, it was selected as one of the second batch of designated medical institutions for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area's "Hong Kong and Macau Drug and Device Connect" initiative, launched a new emergency imaging center, and the Precision Medicine Research Institute was awarded the National "Model Worker Pioneer" title, while the hospital was designated as a 2023 Guangzhou Health Promotion Hospital. In 2024, it received the Health Science Popularization Contribution Award, and the Gastroenterology Department was announced as a finalist for the 26th Guangdong Youth May Fourth Medal collective. In 2025, the medical complex building was completed, and the Women and Children's Center and International Medical Center were inaugurated. The hospital successfully performed the world's first "external liver" treatment, established strategic cooperation with a teaching hospital affiliated with Harvard Medical School, implemented the prescription of the new Alzheimer's drug Donanemab injection, was selected as one of the first batch of provincial pilot medical institutions in Guangdong Province to provide companion-free care services, and was rated as a "Health Science Popularization Pioneer Institution."
