Shanghai Children's Medical Center, Department of Stomatology, Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (including the Orthognathic & Orthodontics and Cleft Lip & Palate Center) comprises three expert teams: 1. Craniomaxillofacial Deformity & OSA Team; 2. Cleft Lip and Palate Diagnosis and Treatment Team; 3. Orthodontics/Orthognathic & Orthodontics Team. The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery team is primarily engaged in clinical care, teaching, and research in the areas of congenital and acquired craniomaxillofacial deformities, oral and maxillofacial trauma, and oral and maxillofacial head and neck tumors and inflammation in patients aged 0-35 years. The Craniomaxillofacial Congenital and Acquired Deformity & OSA Diagnosis and Treatment Team is led by Professor Lu Xiaofeng, a renowned expert in this field in China. This team focuses on the reconstruction of congenital or acquired craniomaxillofacial deformities and the diagnosis and treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). They have pioneered the quantitative uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (Q-UPPP) for OSA, the counterclockwise maxillomandibular advancement (CMMA), and were among the first in China to advocate for the sequential treatment of adenotonsillar hypertrophy-mouth breathing-dentofacial deformity (adenoid face). They are one of the leading teams in the field of OSA surgery in China. The team's routine work includes congenital craniofacial deformities, developmental deformities, and acquired deformities (e.g., craniomaxillofacial trauma). They specialize in treatments such as distraction osteogenesis for jaw deformities, orthognathic surgery, contour correction surgery, as well as the diagnosis, treatment, and reconstruction of oral and maxillofacial head and neck tumors. The Cleft Lip and Palate and Facial Cleft Diagnosis and Treatment Team is led by Professor Yang Yusheng, a renowned expert in this field in China. This team primarily focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of congenital oral and maxillofacial deformities and various pediatric oral and maxillofacial surgical diseases. They manage nearly 200 cases of oral and maxillofacial surgery and cleft lip and palate sequential treatment annually, with outstanding achievements in comprehensive sequential treatment for cleft lip and palate. The team is also a key force in the Mother's Smile Initiative, having participated in the Smile Action and Smile Train charitable activities for nearly 20 years, bringing smiles to thousands of cleft lip and palate patients and their families. They are also skilled in the diagnosis, treatment, and reconstruction of oral and maxillofacial head and neck tumors. The Orthodontics/Orthognathic & Orthodontics Treatment Team is led by Deputy Chief Physician Chen Jindong. This team is proficient in fixed orthodontic techniques and clear aligner therapy, specializing in multidisciplinary orthodontic treatment, particularly orthodontic-orthognathic combined treatment, comprehensive sequential treatment for cleft lip and palate, impacted tooth traction, orthodontic-periodontal combined treatment, functional and orthopedic treatment for adolescents, and camouflage treatment for skeletal deformities, including complex cases. Oral and Maxillofacial Trauma & Emergency: Maxillofacial trauma and emergency care are among the primary daily tasks of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department. Diagnosis and treatment cover: maxillofacial soft tissue contusions and lacerations, bite injuries, penetrating injuries, jaw fractures, multiple fractures of the zygomatic-orbital-maxillary complex, and combined orthognathic-orthodontic treatment for old fracture deformities. Oral and Maxillofacial Head and Neck Tumor Diagnosis and Treatment: This is also a major daily task of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department, primarily covering the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant tumors of the oral and maxillofacial region and head and neck, including: benign and malignant tumors of the parotid, submandibular, sublingual, and minor salivary glands; benign and malignant tumors of the maxilla and mandible; benign and malignant tumors of the tongue, lips, buccal mucosa, and soft palate; as well as metastatic tumors of the head and neck and lymph node dissection, dermoid and epidermoid cysts, teratomas, branchial cleft cysts (fistulas), thyroglossal duct cysts (fistulas), and schwannomas, along with repair and reconstruction. Oral and Maxillofacial Inflammation: Oral and maxillofacial space infections are common conditions in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, involving: buccal space, submandibular space, submental space, masseteric space, pterygomandibular space, and infratemporal space diagnosis and treatment.
