1. Basic Information: The department currently has 27 physicians, including 1 chief physician, 3 deputy chief physicians, 17 attending physicians, and 6 resident physicians. Among the physicians, 5 hold doctoral degrees (including those currently pursuing a doctorate), and 10 hold master's degrees (including those currently pursuing a master's degree). There are 62 nurses, including 6 nurse supervisors and 20 senior nurses. 2. Medical Services: The Emergency Department is located adjacent to Zhongshan Second Road in Guangzhou, occupying the first and second floors of the new outpatient and emergency building, and provides 24-hour services. It includes an emergency room (comprising consultation rooms, resuscitation rooms, debridement rooms, and operating rooms), an Emergency Intensive Care Unit (EICU), an observation area, and auxiliary examination rooms (for ECG, X-ray, ultrasound, and laboratory tests, etc.). The department is equipped with advanced emergency rescue equipment and diagnostic instruments. The resuscitation room is equipped with ECG monitors, defibrillators, ventilators, endotracheal intubation kits, various emergency medications, and puncture catheters. The EICU is installed with a multi-functional ECG monitoring system capable of continuous monitoring and analysis of vital signs. There are 6 intensive care beds and 45 observation beds, all equipped with bedside oxygen supply, negative pressure suction, and call systems for patient convenience. Additionally, the department is equipped with ambulances for pre-hospital emergency missions, which are dispatched by the "120" Guangzhou Emergency Command Center to provide on-site rescue for critically ill patients. The department places great emphasis on training in clinical emergency skills. Medical staff are proficient in cardiopulmonary-cerebral resuscitation, electrical defibrillation, endotracheal intubation, deep vein catheterization, ventilator and monitor operation, and the application of emergency medications. They are familiar with the treatment measures for critical conditions such as acute coronary ischemic syndrome, acute organ failure, shock, stroke, acute abdomen, various traumas, metabolic dysfunction, and pediatric emergencies. They also have extensive experience in diagnosing and treating common and frequently occurring diseases in the region. The department receives over 100,000 emergency patients annually from Guangzhou and other regions, with approximately 20,000 patients requiring observation or hospitalization, providing timely and effective emergency medical services to the community. 3. Teaching and Research: The department is a master's degree-granting program in Emergency Medicine, currently with 3 master's supervisors. It undertakes multi-level teaching tasks, including training for graduate students, clinical medicine undergraduates, visiting scholars, and adult education students. Since 1997, the department has been running the "National Advanced Training Course for Emergency Physicians," with each session lasting 6 months (enrollment in early May and early November each year). Current research focuses on cardiovascular and cerebrovascular emergencies, multiple organ failure, and trauma rescue. The department is responsible for one project funded by the Ministry of Health and one by the Provincial Science and Technology Commission, as well as two projects funded by the Provincial Health and Family Planning Commission. Approximately 25 research papers are published annually. The "New Emergency Manual" (First Edition, Fujian Science and Technology Press, 2000), edited by Department Director Professor Liao Xiaoxing, won the Second Prize for Outstanding Scientific and Technical Books from the East China Science and Technology Press in 2001.
