**Introduction:** Director of the Department of Nephrology, Nanfang Hospital, Southern Medical University, and Doctoral Supervisor. From a female soldier raising pigs to a worker-peasant-soldier student, she pursued her Ph.D. at age 40, studied at Harvard at 45, and was elected as an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences at 59, breaking the eight-year absence of female academicians in Guangdong. One of her research achievements has been internationally recognized as "changing the strategy for treating chronic kidney disease." At the same time, Hou Fanfan is an outstanding clinical physician known for her excellent medical skills, high medical ethics, and deep affection from patients and their families. **Medical Career:** Graduated from Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences in 1993 with a Doctor of Medicine degree. From June 1995 to December 1998, she conducted research at Harvard Medical School in the United States. Since 1999, she has served as Director of the Institute of Nephrology of the People's Liberation Army (now the Institute of Nephrology, Southern Medical University), Professor of Internal Medicine at the First Military Medical University (now Southern Medical University), Director of the Department of Nephrology at Nanfang Hospital, and Doctoral Supervisor. She concurrently holds academic positions such as Executive Council Member of the Chinese Society of Nephrology and Visiting Professor of the Hong Kong Kidney Education and Research Foundation, as well as serving as Column Editor-in-Chief, Deputy Editor-in-Chief, or Editorial Board Member for 14 domestic and international journals. In 2009, she was elected as an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. **Research Achievements:** She has published 138 papers as first and/or corresponding author, including multiple articles in internationally renowned journals such as *N Engl J Med*, *J Am Soc Nephrol*, and *Arterioscler Thromb Vasc Biol*. She has received numerous awards at major international conferences. She has led 14 key projects at the national and provincial/ministerial levels, including key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. She has won two National Science and Technology Progress Second Prizes and four provincial/ministerial-level Science and Technology Progress First Prizes. She holds two national invention patents. She has been honored with the "Ho Leung Ho Lee Prize" (2006), the second "Chinese Physician Award" (2005), the seventh "Ding Ying Science and Technology Award" (2004), and the title of "Science and Technology Venus" from the General Logistics Department of the People's Liberation Army (2002).
