Zhang Wei, Associate Chief Physician, Deputy Director of the Department of Extracorporeal Circulation Graduated from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine in 1994. Initially worked in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, engaging in surgical and intensive care unit duties for six years. Since 1999, specialized in extracorporeal circulation for thoracic surgery. Primarily engaged in extracorporeal circulation perfusion and advanced life support (ECMO), with expertise in extracorporeal circulation perfusion for low-weight and extremely low-weight complex congenital heart diseases. Performs over 500 cases of congenital heart surgery perfusion annually, particularly focusing on perfusion for neonates and infants with complex congenital heart diseases, with special attention to deep hypothermic circulatory arrest and cerebral protection. Pioneered and remains the only practitioner of left ventricular assist device (LVAD) in China. Currently, the institution performs the highest number of post-congenital heart surgery extracorporeal life support cases in China, with over 3,000 surgical cases annually, including more than 50 cases of extracorporeal life support, achieving a success rate exceeding 50–60%. Currently serves as a member of the Pediatric Group of the Extracorporeal Circulation Branch of the Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering, and Secretary-General of the China Extracorporeal Circulation Training Base (Shanghai). Previously studied extracorporeal life support techniques in the intensive care unit at the National Taiwan University Hospital. Has traveled multiple times to Seattle and Orlando in the United States, as well as Berlin, Germany, for technical exchanges. Has published eight papers in domestic and international journals, co-authored two monographs on extracorporeal circulation, and participated in two national-level scientific research projects and one Shanghai municipal bureau-level scientific research project.
