**Introduction:**
Professor Yanbing Li has long been dedicated to research on reversing type 2 diabetes through early short-term intensive insulin therapy. In 2000, she pioneered the application of short-term intensive insulin therapy as initial treatment for type 2 diabetes in China. Related findings were published in *Diabetes Care* (2004, 2012; IF 14.8), significantly improving patient outcomes and inducing diabetes remission. Subsequently, through national multicenter studies, she further established the important role of Short-term Intensive Insulin Therapy (SIIT) in diabetes treatment paradigms, with results published in *The Lancet* (2008; IF 98.4).
She was the first in China to propose the "Precision Step-down Treatment Model" for type 2 diabetes. Through in-depth analysis, her team identified a series of clinical markers predictive of long-term glycemic remission and summarized insulin dosage and glycemic characteristics during intensive therapy. Related findings were published in journals such as *Endocr J* (2013), *Diabetes Technol Ther* (2013), *Diabetes Res Clin Prac* (2015, 2017), *J Diabetes Res* (2016), and *J Diabetes* (2023). Her team continuously explores optimization and mechanistic studies of insulin intensification regimens, refining and standardizing the intensive treatment protocol.
Since 2017, based on prior research, her team developed the "Intensification-Simplification" treatment strategy, validated through a national multicenter randomized controlled trial. The study found this strategy significantly improved glycemic control, markedly outperforming current standard treatment strategies, with results published in *BMJ* (2024; IF 93.6). The team established the largest cohort globally (over 2000 cases) of newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes patients undergoing short-term intensive insulin therapy, with the longest follow-up and most comprehensive samples. These research findings have been adopted by multiple editions of the Chinese Diabetes Prevention and Treatment Guidelines (2013-2024), serving as a crucial basis for the short-term intensive insulin therapy pathway in newly diagnosed patients and the selection of post-intensive therapy glucose-lowering regimens, profoundly impacting the treatment methods and concepts for type 2 diabetes.
Furthermore, she led the drafting of the *Expert Consensus on Short-term Intensive Insulin Therapy for Reversing Type 2 Diabetes* and the *Expert Consensus on Short-term Intensive Insulin Therapy for Type 2 Diabetes (2021 Edition)*, generating significant impact within the field. She also led the establishment of the Short-term Intensive Insulin Therapy Specialist Alliance and the Guangdong Diabetes Remission Management Alliance, effectively promoting the standardized development of intensive therapy and diabetes reversal efforts.
