He obtained his bachelor's degree in Clinical Medicine from Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and was directly admitted to a doctoral program in Surgery at the same institution without the entrance examination. During his doctoral studies, he was selected for a joint training program between China and the United States and was publicly funded to study at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. After earning his Ph.D. in Surgery, he worked in the Department of Urology at the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University and was invited to the Prince of Wales Hospital of the Chinese University of Hong Kong for exchange and study.
