The Department of Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology is a flagship discipline of Peking University Cancer Hospital. It is dedicated year-round to precision pharmacotherapy based on genotyping for digestive system malignancies, including gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, esophageal cancer, hepatobiliary and pancreatic tumors, gastrointestinal stromal tumors, and neuroendocrine tumors. This encompasses multidisciplinary comprehensive treatment, clinical research, and translational research on novel anticancer drugs and technologies. The department holds a leading position domestically within the industry, reaching an internationally advanced level. It is a global leader in the development of new anticancer drugs and novel technologies such as cell therapy. Adhering to the concept of precision medicine, the Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology team evaluates patients' tumor biological characteristics and prognostic factors by integrating disease features, genotyping, and molecular characteristics. In close collaboration with the MDT team and research team, it breaks away from traditional treatment concepts. By combining the latest scientific development concepts from both domestic and international sources, the team scientifically integrates precision therapy, multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment, and translational research. This approach allows for the formulation of individualized precision treatment plans for each patient, thereby improving therapeutic efficacy, creating opportunities for cure, and enhancing patient survival. The Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology team is the developer and primary author of national standards and industry guidelines for digestive system malignancies, including the National Health Commission's Colorectal Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Standards, the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO) guidelines for gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, and gastrointestinal stromal tumors. Furthermore, the team has published dozens of significant academic studies in top international journals such as *Lancet*, *JAMA*, *Nature*, and *Nature Medicine*, with research findings incorporated into international industry guidelines. The Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology team is also dedicated to the research and development of new anticancer drugs and technologies. As the leading unit, it has initiated the largest number of Phase I studies for new anticancer drugs in China, organized international and domestic multicenter clinical studies, and established new models for immunotherapy in gastric and esophageal cancer, as well as a new paradigm for perioperative treatment of gastric cancer. Particularly in the field of gene therapy, the team has pioneered innovative research in China, including CAR-T, TCR-T, oncolytic viruses, and personalized mRNA tumor vaccines. Among these, the field of tumor cell therapy has achieved breakthrough progress internationally.
