The Interventional Therapy Department of Peking University Cancer Hospital was established in 1996. It is one of the earliest comprehensive tumor interventional therapy centers in China, integrating outpatient services, inpatient wards, integrated interventional operating rooms, and combining clinical care, education, and research. It serves as a standardized training base for specialist physicians at Peking University, a capacity building and continuing education center of the National Health Commission, one of the first batch of interventional medicine training bases, a standardized training base for tumor interventional therapy, a postdoctoral research station, one of the first core units of the National Research Center for Radiation and Therapy, and a member unit of the Hepatocellular Carcinoma MDT Alliance under the Chinese College of Interventionalists. It is also the chair unit of the Tumor Interventional Therapy Professional Committee of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, the chair unit of the Tumor Interventional Integrated Nursing Professional Committee of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, and the chair unit of the Interventional Specialist Physicians Branch of the Beijing Medical Doctor Association. The Interventional Therapy Department is equipped with an integrated hybrid interventional operating room, featuring the first domestically installed large-aperture Siemens Miyabi Angio-CT and the GE large-format angiography system Innova IGS540. It offers large-field DSA functionality, three-dimensional vascular imaging, CBCT imaging, and tomographic reconstruction capabilities. Combined with imaging equipment such as ultrasound, it can perform microwave and cryoablation for various solid tumors, percutaneous seed implantation, venous port implantation, percutaneous vertebroplasty (bone cement) for spinal bone metastases, image-guided transradial, distal radial, and transfemoral arterial catheterization for continuous arterial infusion chemotherapy, hepatic artery catheterization (pump implantation) for targeted regional infusion chemoembolization, and Y90 radioembolization for liver malignancies. The department currently has 34 beds and 18 physicians, with an annual outpatient volume of over 10,000 visits and an annual interventional treatment volume of 4,000 procedures. Over the past five years, it has undertaken more than 10 national and provincial-level research projects and conducted over 20 clinical trials. In 2019, the clinical application project of continuous hepatic artery infusion chemotherapy for liver malignancies was awarded the Second Prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award by the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association.
