Head and Neck Surgery is a discipline that primarily employs surgical methods to treat head and neck tumors. Its scope of treatment includes thyroid cancer, laryngeal cancer, hypopharyngeal cancer, oral cancer, oropharyngeal cancer, nasal and sinus cancer, salivary gland tumors, and other head and neck neoplasms. The department currently has 31 beds and a medical staff of 24, including 4 chief physicians and 3 deputy chief physicians. The annual number of surgical patients exceeds 1,500, and the annual outpatient volume exceeds 40,000 visits. Patients come from all over the country, with over 70% originating from outside Beijing. In the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid cancer, the department consistently emphasizes "standardization and precision" as its hallmark, adheres to domestic and international guidelines as standards, strictly follows indications for fine-needle aspiration and surgery, insists on standardized and refined surgical techniques, and continuously applies new technologies and concepts to clinical practice. To meet patients' aesthetic requirements, we routinely perform various extra-cervical approaches for endoscopic thyroidectomy, as well as observation, follow-up, and ablation therapy for thyroid microcarcinoma. For patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, routine multidisciplinary team (MDT) consultations are conducted to develop standardized and personalized treatment plans, ensuring optimal therapeutic outcomes while preserving patients' appearance and function. For large defects following resection of advanced or recurrent head and neck tumors, various pedicled or free flaps are used for primary reconstruction to achieve salvage surgical goals. Head and Neck Surgical Oncology is an emerging discipline in the history of medical development, with rapid progress over the past two decades. Our physicians regularly study at the world-renowned MD Anderson Cancer Center in the United States to stay abreast of the latest developments in head and neck tumor treatment. By following the most recent international guidelines for thyroid and head and neck cancer diagnosis and treatment, we fully leverage the multidisciplinary team collaboration model of a specialized cancer hospital, managing each patient according to standardized protocols. Simultaneously, we apply the latest medical technologies and achievements to clinical practice, such as minimally invasive therapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy, ensuring that patients receive timely and effective advanced treatments.
