The Emergency Department of Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University, was established in 1987, making it one of the early-established emergency medicine disciplines in China. It is a master's degree-granting institution, one of the first batch of emergency specialist training bases certified by the Ministry of Health, and a training base for emergency medicine residents and specialists in Shanghai. In 2013, it was awarded the "National Key Clinical Specialty Construction Project." Over the past nearly 30 years of development, the department has established an integrated treatment system of "in-hospital emergency/acute care - emergency observation - emergency ICU," successfully rescuing numerous acute and critically ill patients. It holds a certain influence in Shanghai and the East China region. In addition to handling a large volume of emergency and critically ill patients within Shanghai, it also admits a significant number of critically ill patients transferred from other provinces (municipalities) each year. In recent years, the annual emergency workload has steadily increased. Since 2012, the annual emergency visits have exceeded 180,000, with over 30,000 critically ill patients rescued annually.
