Department Introduction: The Department of Otorhinolaryngology at Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University, was established in 1945. Renowned otorhinolaryngology experts such as Professor Huang Henian, Chang Rongxian, and Wang Jianzhong have successively worked and served as department directors. The current department director is Huang Xinsheng, and the deputy director is Xie Xiaofeng. Under the leadership of successive academic pioneers and through the joint efforts of several generations of colleagues, the department is now characterized by comprehensive treatment of head and neck tumors, while also covering the diagnosis and treatment of various subspecialty diseases in otorhinolaryngology-head and neck surgery. The department operates outpatient clinics, emergency services, general wards, day wards, and special-needs wards, managing a wide range of complex conditions in otorhinolaryngology-head and neck surgery. The department has 15 full-time physicians, including 5 with doctoral degrees, 8 with master's degrees, 1 with senior professional title, 7 with associate senior professional titles, 1 doctoral and master's supervisor, and 2 professional audiologists. Integrating clinical care, teaching, and research, the department is equipped with advanced diagnostic and therapeutic instruments such as otomicroscopes, nasal endoscopes, video laryngoscopes, fiberoptic nasopharyngolaryngoscopes, laser therapy devices, microwave therapy devices, polysomnography for snoring, and low-temperature plasma radiofrequency ablation devices. The department handles over 70,000 outpatient and emergency visits annually and operates four specialized clinics for neck masses, snoring, vertigo, and hearing loss. It treats a wide range of common and complex conditions in the ear, nose, pharynx, and larynx and performs various surgeries in these areas, with particular expertise in comprehensive treatment of head and neck tumors (laryngeal cancer, nasal and nasopharyngeal tumors, parotid and submandibular gland tumors, neck masses, etc.), microsurgical treatment of otitis media, endoscopic minimally invasive treatment of nasal polyps and sinusitis, and comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of snoring. In recent years, the department has received clinical and research funding support from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Shanghai Science and Technology Commission, Shanghai Municipal Health Bureau, and Fudan University Youth Fund.
