**Department Overview:** The Department of Gynecology at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University is a key specialty of Guangdong Province. Established over a century ago alongside the hospital, it has evolved into a modern medical discipline integrating clinical care, scientific research, and education. Through the dedicated and tireless efforts of senior experts such as Zhao Shulan, Hong Suxian, and Xu Xianggui, gynecological surgery achieved independence and significant progress. Over the past two decades, under the leadership of Directors Chen Quanniang, Zhang Xiaowei, and Wang Wei, the department has soared to new heights, cultivating successive cohorts of gynecologists with exemplary medical ethics and exceptional clinical skills. Persistently inheriting and promoting the "Nanshan Spirit" of dedication, pioneering, diligence, and collaboration, the department has secured a prominent position in the domestic academic arena. The department comprises over 100 medical and nursing staff, including 12 with senior professional titles (including one retired re-employed), 2 doctoral supervisors, and 4 master's supervisors. Gynecological specialty groups include: Gynecologic Oncology, General Gynecology, Cervical Pathology, and Female Pelvic Floor Disorders. In 2008, it was designated as a "Gynecological Endoscopy Training Base" by the Ministry of Health, and in 2011, it was accredited as a "Level 4 Gynecological Endoscopy Training Base" by the Medical Administration Bureau of the National Health Commission. Our department serves as a postdoctoral research station and training base for undergraduates, master's students, doctoral students, advanced trainees, and specialists under the National Health Commission's obstetrics and gynecology specialty training program at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University. **Clinical Work:** The department currently has 46 inpatient beds, performs over 1,500 surgeries annually, and manages approximately 70,000 outpatient visits per year. Patients come from all over China, including Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and even Africa. **(I) Comprehensive Diagnosis and Treatment of Gynecologic Tumors** Gynecologic tumors are life-threatening diseases for women, with an increasing incidence among younger populations. Radical hysterectomy and radical oophorectomy were initiated in 1972. In 2001, CCT, HPV fluorescence PCR testing, and colposcopy were introduced. In 2021, molecular genetic testing for ovarian function assessment and precision screening projects for cervical diseases were launched. Emphasis is placed on cervical cancer prevention, with the establishment of a specialized cervical pathology clinic, research on cervical cancer screening, and improvement of cervical cancer prevention and treatment strategies. For the diagnosis and treatment of malignant gynecologic tumors, the techniques employed include: radical hysterectomy, para-aortic (abdominal) lymphadenectomy, pelvic lymphadenectomy, ovarian tumor cytoreductive surgery, and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy. Leveraging the advantages of multidisciplinary collaboration, diagnostic and therapeutic strategies (MDT) for advanced and recurrent refractory patients are actively explored. **(II) Minimally Invasive Surgical Techniques (Hysteroscopy, Laparoscopy, Da Vinci Robot, etc.)** In 1990, Professor Chen Quanniang pioneered the implementation of gynecological video-laparoscopic surgery, making our department one of the earliest units in China to adopt this technique. It is currently a National Level 4 Gynecological Endoscopy Training Base. We continuously expand new methods and techniques for treating gynecologic tumors, including transvaginal, hysteroscopic, laparoscopic (2D, 3D), and even Da Vinci robot-assisted surgeries. Significant emphasis is placed on developing minimally invasive techniques, with distinct characteristics in the minimally invasive management of gynecologic tumors, pelvic floor reconstruction, and endometriosis. Techniques performed include: hysteroscopic resection of uterine septum, myomectomy for submucosal fibroids, adhesiolysis for intrauterine adhesions, and correction of uterine anomalies. Laparoscopic and vaginal total pelvic floor reconstruction surgeries, laparoscopic radical surgery for malignant uterine tumors with pelvic and iliac lymphadenectomy, laparoscopic surgery for deep infiltrating endometriosis, laparoscopic Type III hysterectomy with preservation of pelvic autonomic nerves plus pelvic and para-aortic lymphadenectomy, and laparoscopic inguinal lymphadenectomy are also performed. Da Vinci robot-assisted surgeries include total hysterectomy and staging surgery for endometrial cancer. **(III) Diagnosis and Treatment of Pelvic Floor Disorders** Since 2002, our department has been among the early adopters in the province for the diagnosis and treatment of female pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence. We have performed various types of surgeries for female stress urinary incontinence and various pelvic floor reconstruction procedures, including transabdominal and laparoscopic Burch colposuspension, TVT-E, TVT-O, vaginal paravaginal repair, high uterosacral ligament suspension, transvaginal total pelvic reconstruction (with mesh), and laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy. A dedicated team is also available for urodynamic studies, pelvic floor muscle training, and bladder training, achieving satisfactory clinical outcomes and accumulating extensive clinical experience. **Scientific Research:** Main research areas include: Gynecologic Oncology (molecular mechanisms of tumorigenesis, progression, metastasis, and drug resistance), Clinical Research and Drug Clinical Trials, Diseases Associated with High-Risk Human Papillomavirus Infection, and Pelvic Organ Prolapse and Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation. In the past three years, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has submitted nearly 30 applications for National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) projects, received funding for 5 NSFC projects, published nearly 20 SCI-indexed papers, published nearly 20 papers in Chinese core journals, filed 4 national invention patent applications, and obtained 1 patent grant. We have also received 3 General Projects from the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, 2 General Projects from the Guangdong Provincial Natural Science Foundation, 2 research project grants from the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, and 3 university-level projects. **Teaching Activities:** Our department places great emphasis on standardized residency training. Since 2017, we have applied for 1 provincial-level and 3 university/institutional-level educational projects, one of which was included as a national cultivation project in the "13th Five-Year Plan" for higher education. To date, we have trained dozens of excellent standardized training residents, some of whom have become clinical backbones in their respective hospitals. We have won the first prize in the Clinical Skills Team Competition of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, for three consecutive years. Some trainees have also achieved excellent results in the Guangdong Provincial competition. As a base assessment item, our graduation examination ranked first among the 44 bases in the province in 2021, and our annual level test ranked eighth. Furthermore, the department undertakes theoretical teaching, clinical observation, and internship responsibilities for Guangzhou Medical University's clinical medicine (undergraduate), integrated Chinese and Western medicine (undergraduate), and Nanshan Class programs, as well as adult higher education. We contribute to cultivating and reserving outstanding scientific research talents. Many students have received honors such as "National Outstanding Doctoral Student" and "University-Level Outstanding Graduate Student." In 2021, our students won gold and silver medals in the "University Student Scientific Research Innovation Ability Competition" at both the South China regional and national levels.
