The Department of Clinical Psychology was established in 1974 and is one of the earliest psychiatric outpatient departments in general hospitals within Guangdong Province. It serves as a clinical specialty and teaching and research unit integrating medical care, education, and scientific research. The department boasts strong scientific research and medical technical capabilities, with 4 senior professional title experts, 2 senior attending physicians, and 1 psychotherapist. Among them, 2 hold doctoral degrees and 2 hold master's degrees. It undertakes the teaching of psychiatry for clinical undergraduate students at Guangzhou Medical University and the clinical teaching for applied psychology students. In recent years, it has led 1 hospital-level project, edited the book "Hypochondriasis," and participated in the editing and translation of multiple textbooks, publishing 7 teaching papers in core journals.
After years of development, the Department of Clinical Psychology emphasizes the integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, accumulating extensive diagnostic and treatment experience in conditions such as anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, insomnia, social phobia, somatoform disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, child and adolescent mental disorders, and enterprise psychological assistance. The use of traditional Chinese medicine for treating depression, anxiety disorders, and sleep disorders has become a distinctive feature. Plans are underway to introduce repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation, enhanced external counterpulsation therapy, hypnosis, and cognitive psychotherapy. The department also participates in the psychological assessment and intervention work of the hospital's lung transplant team and bariatric surgery team, actively undertaking and contributing to various social tasks and responsibilities.
In terms of scientific research, the department actively conducts studies on hypoxia and acid retention in depressive and anxiety disorders. In recent years, it has led 1 project funded by the Guangdong Provincial Natural Science Foundation, 1 project under the Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Plan, and participated in 5 other departmental and municipal-level projects. It has published 6 papers in SCI-indexed journals and over 20 professional papers in Chinese core journals.
