The Department of Gastroenterology currently has 40 inpatient beds, with an endoscopy unit and a 13C urea breath test laboratory. The department is a master's degree-granting program, with a total of 25 authorized medical staff, including 11 physicians (2 with doctoral degrees, 6 with master's degrees), 2 professors and chief physicians, 4 associate professors and deputy chief physicians, 2 attending physicians, and 3 junior-level staff. The academic leader, Chen Xueqing, is a chief physician, professor, doctor of medicine, and master's supervisor. The department serves as a vice-chairman and standing committee member unit of the Guangdong and Guangzhou Medical Associations for Gastroenterology, Endoscopy, and Hepatology. Its main research focuses on the prevention and treatment of biliary and pancreatic diseases, intestinal inflammatory diseases, and gastrointestinal tumors. The department boasts renowned diagnostic and therapeutic experts, covering all gastroenterological conditions and rare, complex diseases. Since its establishment, the Department of Gastroenterology has evolved over the years, keeping pace with the times and innovating medical models and concepts. Closely relying on our hospital's advantageous platform and fully leveraging its elite capabilities, the department has gradually developed a "medical model focusing on clinical pharmacotherapy and endoscopic diagnosis and treatment." It has established three specialized sub-specialties: the Gastrointestinal Diseases Subspecialty, the Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Diseases Subspecialty, and the Digestive Endoscopy Subspecialty. The core members of the medical team consist of specialists from gastroenterology, the digestive endoscopy center, and the imaging department for digestive diseases. In the operational processes of each subspecialty, seamless multidisciplinary connections, efficient diagnosis, optimal decision-making, and comprehensive treatment are achieved. The Digestive Endoscopy Diagnosis and Treatment Center is fully equipped with all diagnostic and therapeutic devices for digestive endoscopy. It has proficiently conducted routine and painless gastroscopy and colonoscopy techniques, minimally invasive endoscopic treatments for biliary and pancreatic diseases, endoscopic ultrasound diagnosis and intervention, small bowel endoscopy diagnosis and treatment, and capsule endoscopy. Among these, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy and minimally invasive endoscopic treatments for biliary and pancreatic diseases have reached domestically leading levels, earning praise from domestic and international experts and scholars. Currently, the Department of Gastroenterology has collaborated with the Department of General Surgery to perform combined endoscopic and laparoscopic diagnosis and treatment of abdominal diseases, further enhancing the level of interventional therapy for digestive system diseases in our hospital. The department has led 3 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 2 projects from the Ministry of Education, and 8 provincial and ministerial-level projects. It has published multiple SCI articles and over 80 papers in core international and domestic academic journals. The gastroenterology teaching team boasts strong faculty resources, with over 50% of teachers holding master's degrees or above, 1 master's supervisor, and over 60% of teachers holding senior professional titles.
