The Rehabilitation Department has achieved internationally and domestically advanced levels in the diagnosis and treatment of spinal diseases. It is one of the two designated backbone units for the teaching, training, and promotion of the national "Long's Spinal Manipulation Technique," and boasts multiple experts and technicians proficient in this technique. Since 1996, it has successfully hosted 15 sessions of the "Long's Spinal Therapy Overseas Training Course," training over 600 overseas doctors from more than 20 countries and regions, including the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, in the diagnosis and treatment of spinal diseases, earning recognition from peers both domestically and internationally.
This specialty has led and participated in numerous national and provincial-level scientific research projects and undertakes teaching responsibilities for the Rehabilitation Department of Guangzhou Medical University. It pioneered the introduction of the "Long's Spinal Therapy" course into medical universities, establishing specialized courses in spinal diseases and related disorders, making it the only medical institution in China with a dedicated spinal disease specialty. Additionally, it successfully introduced "Long's Spinal Therapy" into Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where it became a compulsory course in the "Master's Degree Program in Manual Therapy" of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences. This marks the first time a domestic spinal disease treatment technique has been incorporated into a Hong Kong university curriculum.
Over the past 20 years, the department has diagnosed and treated tens of thousands of patients from both domestic and international locations suffering from spinal conditions such as cervical spondylosis, stiff neck, cervical vertigo, pediatric cervical spondylosis, thoracic spine disorders, lumbar spine disorders, lumbar sprain, lumbar muscle strain, cervical and lumbar disc herniation, pelvic rotation syndrome, as well as shoulder periarthritis and arthritis. Using the three-step localization diagnosis and Long's spinal manipulation technique, significant therapeutic effects have been achieved. Due to its comfort and painlessness, the spinal therapy is highly favored by patients and enjoys a prestigious reputation both domestically and internationally.
The Rehabilitation Department has also introduced advanced physiotherapy equipment, including three-dimensional interferential current therapy devices, SSP therapy devices, computer-intermediate frequency drug iontophoresis, low-frequency diagnostic and therapeutic devices, ultrashort wave therapy devices, and microwave therapy devices. These have demonstrated remarkable efficacy in the rehabilitation of conditions such as acute and chronic neck and lumbar sprains, neck and lumbar muscle strains, pain syndromes, arthritis, peripheral nerve injuries like facial paralysis, phlebitis, wound infections, bronchitis, pneumonia, pelvic inflammatory disease, and appendicitis.
