The Department of Cardiovascular Medicine is a Guangdong Provincial Clinical Key Specialty, a "Five Ones" Key Engineering Discipline in 1995, the 7th batch of Guangdong Provincial Key Supported Disciplines in 2003, the 8th batch in 2007, and a Guangdong Provincial Clinical Key Discipline in 2011. It is a leading discipline in South China with significant influence, focusing on interventional cardiology and achieving comprehensive development in clinical care, teaching, and research. It holds a leading domestic position in the interventional diagnosis and treatment of coronary heart disease, arrhythmias, and peripheral vascular diseases, and is a national-level coronary intervention training base. The department operates two wards in the Yanjiang Campus, with 62 beds, including 5 CCU beds. It also conducts related medical work at the Dongsheng Cooperative Campus and runs medical centers such as the Chest Pain Center, Atrial Fibrillation Center, Cardiogenic Stroke Center, and Heart Failure Center. The department boasts a team of cardiovascular experts and a well-structured talent梯队, including 26 physicians (9 with senior titles, 6 with associate senior titles, 10 with intermediate titles, and 1 with junior title), 1 researcher (senior title), 4 medical technicians, and 40 nurses. Among them, there are 2 postdoctoral fellows, 10 PhDs, 12 master's degree holders, 5 visiting scholars abroad, 7 master's supervisors, 1 recipient of the Guangdong Province May 1st Labor Medal, 1 recipient of the Guangdong Province March 8th Red-Banner Pacesetter, and several experts serving as key members of national, provincial, and municipal cardiovascular societies. The department has well-established subspecialties and extensive experience in diagnosing and treating various cardiovascular diseases, including coronary heart disease, peripheral vascular diseases, arrhythmias, hypertension, myocarditis, heart failure, rheumatic heart disease, and cardiomyopathy. It regularly provides consultation services for complex cases within the province and surrounding areas, conducts long-term community healthcare services and grassroots medical team training, effectively utilizing high-quality medical resources to serve more patients. The department is equipped with advanced cardiac interventional instruments such as digital subtraction angiography systems, electrophysiology radiofrequency ablation systems, and 3D mapping systems, as well as optical coherence tomography (OCT), intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), intra-aortic balloon pump systems, cardiac pacemakers, external counterpulsation devices, esophageal pacing devices, bedside echocardiography machines, Holter monitors, exercise treadmill ECG systems, ambulatory blood pressure monitors, and ventilators, enabling a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Since initiating right heart catheterization in 1993, the department has continuously optimized key specialized techniques and expanded new interventional technologies, achieving a leading domestic level in complex coronary artery lesion intervention, peripheral artery intervention, pulmonary vascular intervention, arrhythmia intervention, artificial cardiac pacing, and device therapy for heart failure. The department undertakes multi-level teaching tasks for postdoctoral fellows, doctoral and master's students, undergraduates, associate degree students, and visiting scholars in clinical medicine, preventive medicine, nursing, and other disciplines. With strong teaching capabilities, it serves as a Guangdong Provincial Cardiovascular Specialist Training Base, a standardized residency training base, and a coronary intervention physician training center. As one of the earliest clinical pharmacology bases in the hospital, the department has participated in the national "973" program, led nearly 100 research projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation, provincial, municipal, and institutional grants, published nearly 100 SCI papers, and obtained multiple national utility model patents. The department is the chair unit of the Pulmonary Circulation Branch of the Guangzhou Medical Association and the Cardiac Health Engineering Professional Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Chest Disease Society. It hosts numerous national, provincial, and municipal academic conferences and continuing education programs annually. Key Specialized Techniques: (1) Intracavitary imaging-guided precision treatment for complex coronary interventions: including IVUS, OCT, coronary rotational atherectomy, drug-coated balloons (DCB), and bioresorbable scaffolds. (2) Peripheral vascular interventions: endovascular aortic repair, complex supra-aortic vessel reconstruction, pulmonary vascular interventions, and lower extremity arterial interventions. (3) Cardiac pacing and electrophysiology: radiofrequency ablation for complex arrhythmias, permanent pacemaker implantation, CRT/D, ICD-related techniques, and left atrial appendage closure. (4) Interventional treatment for structural heart disease: aortic balloon valvuloplasty and interventional treatment for congenital heart disease. (5) Optimized interventional techniques for thoracic disease diagnosis and treatment: cardiopulmonary transplantation, pre-lung transplant evaluation, and closure of bronchopleural fistula and tracheoesophageal fistula.
