Department Details
The Department of Stomatology at Nanfang Hospital is a leading oral specialty department among comprehensive hospitals in China in terms of scale and academic strength. It ranks first in South China in the national reputation ranking of oral specialties in comprehensive hospitals. The department holds a National Key Clinical Specialty, four national standardized training bases for resident physicians in stomatology, and a first-level doctoral degree authorization point. It currently comprises Outpatient Area 1, Outpatient Area 2, the Huiqiao Building Specialist Clinic, and the Oral Head, Neck, and Maxillofacial Surgery Ward, equipped with 78 dental treatment chairs, 100 inpatient beds, and an annual outpatient volume of over 130,000 visits.
Department Structure:
**Department of Endodontics and Cariology (National Key Clinical Specialty):** Focuses on the treatment of various toothaches, caries (cavities), pulp diseases, periapical diseases, dental trauma, tooth sensitivity, and various developmental defects of teeth, as well as aesthetic dental restorations.
**Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery:** Performs outpatient alveolar surgeries such as tooth extractions and diagnosis/treatment of various soft and hard tissue masses; treats oral and maxillofacial infections, injuries, tumors, salivary gland diseases, temporomandibular joint disorders, maxillofacial nerve disorders, cleft lip and palate, and dentofacial deformities.
**Department of Prosthodontics:** Utilizes precision restoration concepts and digital restoration techniques to provide removable, fixed, and implant-supported restorations for tooth/arch defects or edentulism; offers minimally invasive/immediate aesthetic treatments such as veneers and inlays; and performs high-difficulty specialized procedures including full-mouth occlusal reconstruction, maxillofacial prosthetic rehabilitation, and prosthodontic management of periodontal and temporomandibular joint diseases.
**Department of Dental Implantology:** Provides dental implant treatment.
**Department of Orthodontics:** Offers orthodontic treatment for adolescents and adults.
**Department of Pediatric Dentistry:** Treats dental pulp diseases in children under 18, pediatric oral soft tissue diseases, occlusal guidance, pediatric oral surgical treatments, and oral care for special-needs children.
**Department of General Dentistry:** Provides tooth extractions, fillings, root canal therapy, restorative treatments (veneers, inlays, full crowns), basic periodontal care, periodontal surgery, teeth whitening, mucogingival surgery, and restorative procedures.
**Department of Periodontology and Oral Mucosal Diseases:** Offers teeth cleaning and whitening; treats gum bleeding, suppuration, gum recession, root exposure, root sensitivity, tooth mobility, weak bite, halitosis; manages oral ulcers, lip and tongue diseases, oral mucosal plaques, and oral infectious diseases.
**Talent Structure:** The department has over 130 medical, technical, and nursing staff, including 6 senior-level specialists (professors), 15 associate senior-level specialists, 4 postdoctoral co-supervisors, 6 doctoral supervisors, and 11 master's supervisors.
**Academic Development:** The department is a National Key Clinical Specialty, a Guangdong Province Peak Key Discipline, a Guangdong Province Key Construction Discipline, a first-level doctoral degree authorization point in Stomatology, a postdoctoral research station, a master's degree authorization point, a National Drug Clinical Trial Institution (GCP) qualification holder, a Guangdong Province Digital Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Stomatology, and a key specialty under the Guangdong Province Quality Engineering Construction Project. It is responsible for theoretical instruction and clinical teaching for undergraduate students at the School of Stomatology, Southern Medical University.
