Department Details
The Department of Cardiovascular Medicine is a postdoctoral research station and a doctoral (1994) and master's (1986) degree authorization point approved by the National Education Commission. In 1997, the Cardiovascular Medicine Research Laboratory was designated as a key laboratory of our university. In 2000, it was approved as the Cardiovascular Medicine Center of the People's Liberation Army. In 2005, it was approved by the Ministry of Health as a training base for cardiovascular clinical pharmacists. In 2005, it was approved by the State Food and Drug Administration as a clinical trial institution for cardiovascular drugs. In 2006, it was approved by the Ministry of Health as a training base for internal medicine specialists and cardiovascular medicine subspecialists. In 2007, it was approved by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education as a provincial key discipline - Internal Medicine (Cardiovascular). In 2008, the Cardiovascular Medicine Laboratory was approved as a key laboratory of the Ministry of Education for the "Prevention and Treatment of Organ Failure" jointly built by the province and ministry. In the same year, our department became the third batch of 211 project "Discipline of Prevention and Treatment of Organ Failure" of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education. In 2010, it was approved by the Guangdong Provincial Health Department as a provincial key clinical specialty. In 2012, it was approved by the Ministry of Health as a training base for coronary intervention and arrhythmia intervention. In 2012, the laboratory was approved as the "Key Laboratory of Organ Failure Prevention and Treatment of the Ministry of Education".
The department has over 100 beds. It currently comprises a well-structured, well-equipped discipline with advanced diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, comprehensive development in clinical care, education, and research, and a spirit of collaboration, consisting of specialized wards, a CCU unit, a non-invasive diagnostic center, an interventional diagnosis and treatment center, and a laboratory. It has a technical team with a reasonable knowledge and age structure, as well as discipline and academic leaders who are proficient in the specialty's technology and highly dedicated. The department undertakes the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular patients from within and outside the province, as well as consultations and rescue missions for difficult and critical cases. It maintains a high level of expertise both domestically and provincially in the treatment of severe cardiovascular diseases, cardiovascular interventional diagnosis and treatment, and non-invasive cardiovascular examinations.
The department currently has 11 professors and 10 associate professors, including 7 doctoral supervisors and 4 master's supervisors. The proportion of graduate students in the primary medical staff is 85.7%, with a doctoral ratio of 56.43%. Five members serve as committee members and/or chairpersons or vice-chairpersons in the National Cardiovascular Disease Professional Committee or the specialized branches of the Guangdong Medical Association, and 14 members serve on the editorial boards of dozens of domestic core medical journals. The department maintains extensive academic exchanges both domestically and internationally, having appointed four professors from the United States, Japan, and other countries as visiting professors. Fourteen clinical core members have studied in the United States and Japan for 1-4 years and returned after completing their studies. The department has close ties with several foreign universities (such as Harvard University, the University of Colorado, the University of Virginia, the University of Nebraska in the United States, and Kanazawa University in Japan), establishing a strong platform for academic exchange and jointly training doctoral students, ensuring that the department's diagnostic and treatment levels, research directions, and scientific methods remain synchronized with international standards.
As of the end of 2012, the department, as the primary completing unit, has obtained one National Class I New Biological Product Certificate (for a perfluorocarbon gas microbubble contrast agent), one National Class I New Biological Product Certificate (for an air microbubble contrast agent), and one Outstanding National Invention Patent Award. It has also received three First Prizes of the Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, three Second Prizes of the Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, four Second Prizes of the Military Science and Technology Progress Award, and two Second Prizes of the Military Medical Achievement Award. As the first author, the department has obtained a total of 42 research grants, including one sub-project of the National High-Tech Research and Development Program (863 Program) and one sub-project of the National Key Basic Research Program (973 Program), as well as 14 general projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, with a total research funding of over 13 million RMB. In the past four years, as the first author, the department has published over 400 full-text papers in domestic statistical source journals, including over 30 papers indexed in SCI, featuring high-level articles in cardiovascular journals such as Circulation, European Heart Journal, Cardiovascular Research, and Critical Care Medicine. The awards, grants, and the quality and quantity of papers obtained by the entire discipline are at the forefront in the Pearl River Delta region.
The department is equipped with advanced facilities and offers a comprehensive range of examination items. It currently has high-end equipment such as a dual C-arm digital subtraction angiography system, PET-CT, MRI, dual-source spiral CT, color Doppler echocardiography system, exercise stress testing system, ambulatory ECG and blood pressure analysis system, intra-aortic balloon pump, percutaneous cardiopulmonary support system, coronary intravascular ultrasound system (IVUS), FFR, arterial stiffness detector, Carto and Ensite three-dimensional electroanatomical mapping systems, 64-channel electrophysiological recorder, radiofrequency ablation system, and pacemaker analyzer, meeting the needs for interventional and non-invasive cardiac examinations.
