Department of General Dentistry

Department Details

The Department of General Dentistry currently has 30 professional medical and technical staff, handling an annual outpatient volume of 60,000 to 80,000 visits. The department serves pediatric patients from all over the country, offering comprehensive treatment services in multiple specialized fields, including pediatric endodontics, oral mucosal diseases, orthodontics, maxillofacial surgery, preventive care, and medical aesthetics. It has become a comprehensive pediatric oral specialty outpatient clinic integrating examination, diagnosis, treatment, and preventive care. The department maintains close academic exchanges with the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and Department of Orthognathic and Orthodontics at Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, as well as the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at West China Hospital of Stomatology, Sichuan University, ensuring timely updates on the latest developments and technical diagnostic and treatment approaches in the field. Since November 2019, in response to the National Development and Reform Commission's policy on pilot output hospitals for regional medical center construction, and under the leadership of the hospital, our department has fully supported the establishment of the stomatology departments at four national regional medical centers: Fujian Hospital, Hainan Hospital, Guizhou Hospital, and Linyi Hospital. This has involved building the disciplinary framework and providing professional technical support for local pediatric dentistry. Our department primarily serves children, adolescents, and adults of all ages, with six subspecialties: pediatric caries, pulp and periapical diseases, pediatric dental trauma, oral treatment for special-needs children, pediatric occlusal guidance, and pediatric surgical outpatient services. We have introduced the concept of pediatric oral health management, offering comprehensive prevention and treatment of pediatric caries, diagnosis and management of pediatric pulp and periapical diseases, painless and minimally invasive pediatric oral treatment techniques, sequential treatment for various types of pediatric dental trauma, diagnosis and treatment of dental developmental abnormalities, early intervention for occlusal abnormalities and occlusal development management, and diagnosis and treatment of oral diseases in special-needs children. This also includes the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric oral conditions such as abnormal labial and lingual frenula, mucoceles, impacted supernumerary teeth, and extraction of orthodontic teeth. Early Orthodontic Treatment: Management of anterior crossbite during the primary and mixed dentition stages, mild to moderate to severe crowding, space maintenance for premature loss of primary teeth, and elimination of harmful oral habits. For adolescents with various types of malocclusion, including dental crowding, mandibular retrusion, and crossbite, early orthodontic intervention is performed using clear aligners, removable appliances, functional appliances, and other modalities. Comfortable Oral Treatment: Leveraging our hospital's nationally top-tier anesthesia team, we efficiently conduct comfortable treatment while ensuring patient safety and comfort, overcoming the limitations of outpatient care. This approach is particularly beneficial for patients with dental fear, young children, and special-needs children, enabling the smooth execution of various oral treatments. Oral Medicine Diseases: Treatment of primary tooth caries and pulp and periapical diseases, vital pulp therapy for immature permanent teeth (pulp capping and pulpotomy), apexification, cosmetic light-cured restoration for crown fractures of anterior teeth due to trauma, supragingival scaling, and pit and fissure sealing and fluoride application for primary and permanent teeth. Oral Surgical Diseases: Extraction of supernumerary teeth and complex teeth, excision of labial mucoceles, frenuloplasty for ankyloglossia, and emergency debridement and suturing for traumatic injuries. Oral Mucosal Diseases: Diagnosis and treatment of gingivitis, ulcers, herpetic stomatitis, oral thrush, geographic tongue, and angular cheilitis.
