The Department of Clinical Nutrition at Shanghai Children's Medical Center is one of the earliest established pediatric clinical nutrition specialties in China. It is primarily engaged in clinical care, teaching, and research on nutrition-related diseases. By establishing the first standardized full-process pathway covering "nutritional risk screening—nutritional assessment—nutritional diagnosis and treatment—nutritional follow-up" in China (2018), and independently developing a pediatric clinical nutrition management software system with four national software copyrights, the department has laid the foundation for standardization and informatization in the discipline. Within a decade, it was recognized as a key clinical nutrition discipline in Shanghai; within 15 years, it stood out nationwide, successfully obtaining approval as a National Key Clinical Specialty. It has also been awarded multiple national honors, including the National Health Commission's Model Unit for Clinical Nutrition Department Construction and the National Clinical Trial Institution for Foods for Special Medical Purposes. From 2018 to 2025, it ranked first in the Shanghai Clinical Nutrition Quality Control Inspection for specialized hospitals seven times, becoming a benchmark and academic highland in the field of pediatric nutrition nationwide. The department focuses on clinical research on foods for special medical purposes and functional foods, mechanistic studies on intestinal barrier and gut microbiota, pediatric nutrition and growth and development, pathogenesis of hematological/oncological diseases and novel targeted nutritional therapy strategies, and the construction of large-scale clinical cohorts for major digestive system diseases. Currently, it has over 20 ongoing research projects (including multiple national-level projects such as the National Key R&D Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Natural Science Foundation of China). It has published over 40 SCI papers (with an impact factor exceeding 140, with major findings published in authoritative journals such as *Cell Death Differentiation* (Q1, IF = 15.4) and *Advanced Science* (Q1, IF = 14.1)), over 50 Chinese core journal papers, led or participated in drafting 9 consensus guidelines, and holds multiple software copyrights and patents. The department is responsible for undergraduate teaching and graduation internship training for students from the School of Nutrition at Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and the Department of Health Education at Shanghai Sanda University. Professor Hong Li, the discipline leader, serves as a doctoral supervisor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Fujian Medical University, and Guizhou Medical University, training numerous master's and doctoral students, as well as over 100 specialized nutrition trainees, including physicians, dietitians, and nurses. It has trained multiple national leaders in pediatric clinical nutrition, who have established and served as department heads of pediatric clinical nutrition departments in provincial and municipal hospitals. Additionally, the department maintains collaborative exchanges with top-tier hospitals and research institutions in Europe and the United States, staying abreast of international advanced diagnostic and therapeutic technologies. The department's members include nutrition physicians, dietitians, and technical staff with extensive clinical experience. Nearly half hold doctoral degrees, and many have long-term overseas study experience, possess international professional association certifications, and are well-versed in the latest global developments and technologies in the field.
