The Department of Ophthalmology at Shanghai Children's Medical Center primarily focuses on ocular diseases in children and adolescents aged 0-18 years, conducting related clinical care, teaching, and research. It has established multiple subspecialties, including strabismus and amblyopia, optometry, lacrimal duct disorders, oculoplastic surgery, ocular surface diseases, and fundus diseases, making it one of the most comprehensive and mature pediatric ophthalmology teams in China. The ophthalmology team has accumulated extensive clinical experience in surgical treatments for conditions such as strabismus, nystagmus, entropion and trichiasis, blepharophimosis syndrome, lacrimal duct probing and intubation, ptosis, eyelid tumors, and orbital tumors. The team has performed approximately 18,000 strabismus and nystagmus surgeries, with particular expertise in complex cases. Surgical correction of entropion, trichiasis, and ptosis using plastic and aesthetic standards has yielded highly satisfactory outcomes. Comprehensive amblyopia treatment and myopia prevention and control strategies closely follow the latest domestic and international advancements, striving to provide optimal treatment plans for pediatric patients. To date, approximately 3,500 OK lens fittings have been completed, with extensive experience gained in challenging cases. Additionally, leveraging the advantages of a general hospital, the department has been involved in diagnosing and treating fundus diseases in premature infants, neonates, and young children for over a decade, identifying and confirming more than 100 cases of fundus diseases. The Department of Ophthalmology at Shanghai Children's Medical Center maintains close exchanges and collaborative relationships with numerous renowned ophthalmology departments both domestically and internationally, offering telemedicine consultations and establishing green channels for ophthalmic care across multiple regions. All subspecialty physicians have undergone medium- to long-term clinical professional training, with many holding certifications from domestic professional associations. They stay abreast of the latest international research trends and technologies in their fields, playing an outstanding role in the diagnosis and treatment of rare and complex cases.
