Department Details
The Department of Clinical Laboratory at Shanghai Children's Medical Center was officially established in 1998 when the hospital was founded. It is dedicated to advancing national standards and standardization in pediatric clinical laboratory medicine, providing efficient, accurate, timely, and cost-effective testing services for all pediatric patients in the hospital, and offering clinical consultation services. At the same time, it closely supports the hospital's medical care, teaching, and research efforts and serves as a training base for medical schools and universities. The department currently covers an area of 1,402.6 square meters and comprises seven major specialties: Biochemistry, Immunology, Microbiology, Hematology, Clinical Laboratory, Blood Transfusion, and Molecular Biology. It offers over 460 testing items (including special tests) and is equipped with advanced instruments from leading international and domestic brands. Laboratory management and testing technologies are increasingly standardized, informatized, automated, and miniaturized. In 2010, it received laboratory accreditation from the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment; in 2018, it was awarded the Shanghai Medical Laboratory Quality Award; in 2019, it was recognized as a "Best Service Window" by the Shanghai Health System; in 2020, it received the Shanghai Advanced Collective for Combating the COVID-19 Pandemic; in 2020, it was honored as the "Special Contribution Team for Pandemic Testing" by the Shanghai Medical Association's Laboratory Medicine Branch; and in 2021, it was awarded the Shanghai Health System March 8th Red-Banner Collective.
The department currently has 62 employees, including 7 with senior professional titles and 14 with intermediate titles; 7 with doctoral degrees and 6 with master's degrees; 2 doctoral supervisors and 1 master's supervisor. Over 10 staff members have studied abroad in countries such as the United States, the Netherlands, and Hong Kong, participating in significant domestic and international academic exchanges and bringing advanced management concepts and cutting-edge technologies back to the hospital, thereby strongly promoting the department's development. The main research directions of the department's scientific research team include genetic diseases, tumor genetic diagnosis, pathogenesis, and targeted drug development. In the past five years, the department has secured 9 projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 11 provincial and ministerial-level projects, 4 municipal and bureau-level projects, and 7 institutional and college-level projects, with total funding support reaching 16.1 million yuan. It has published 39 SCI papers as first or corresponding author, with a total impact factor of 166.65, a highest impact factor of 15.302, and 6 papers with an impact factor greater than 5; it has also published 20 papers in Chinese core journals. Nine individuals have been selected for municipal or bureau-level or medical college talent programs such as the "Pujiang Talent Program," "Municipal Science and Technology Commission Outstanding Academic Leader Plan," "New Hundred Talents Plan," and "Excellent Youth Program." Eleven individuals have been appointed as chairpersons or members of major domestic academic organizations, and two serve as editorial board members for renowned journals. Department staff have received honors including the "Excellent Individual" award from the Shanghai Bacterial Resistance Surveillance Network, the "Outstanding Talent" award from the Chinese Medical Association's Clinical Transfusion Branch, the "Excellent Laboratory Technician" award from the Shanghai Medical Association's Laboratory Medicine Branch, the "Youth Parasite Skills Competition" Excellence Award from the Shanghai Medical Association's Laboratory Medicine Branch and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention's Institute of Parasitic Diseases, the "March 8th Red-Banner Pacesetter" honorary title from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and over 30 individual awards from Shanghai Children's Medical Center, including the "President's Award - Individual Award," "Civilization Creation Model Post," and "Party Member Demonstration Post."
