Department of Neurology, Shanghai Children's Medical Center, is one of the earliest established pediatric neurology specialties in China, primarily engaged in clinical care, teaching, and research for a wide range of neurological disorders in children and adolescents aged 0-18 years. It currently serves as a council member of the China Anti-Epilepsy Association, Vice Chairman of the Ketogenic Diet Professional Committee of the China Anti-Epilepsy Association, member of the Precision Medicine and Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Professional Committee and the Tuberous Sclerosis Professional Committee of the China Anti-Epilepsy Association, member of the Neurology Group of the Pediatric Professional Committee of the Chinese Medical Association, member of the Pediatric Neurology Group of the Neurology Professional Committee of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, council member of the Shanghai Anti-Epilepsy Association, and Deputy Leader of the Neurology Group of the Pediatric Professional Committee of the Shanghai Medical Association. It also serves as a Shanghai standardized residency training base and a Shanghai specialist physician training base (Pediatric Neurology). The department currently includes outpatient clinics, inpatient wards (21 beds, including video EEG monitoring beds), an EEG room, and an EMG room. The department staff comprises 12 neurologists (including 1 chief physician, 2 retired chief physicians on re-employment, 3 attending physicians, and 6 resident physicians) and 4 EEG room staff members (including 1 associate chief physician and 3 technicians). Diagnosed and treated conditions primarily include: febrile seizures, gastroenteritis-associated seizures, epilepsy, and other convulsive disorders; tic disorders, headache, dizziness, and other paroxysmal disorders; viral encephalitis, purulent and fungal meningitis, immune encephalitis, and infection-related encephalopathy; myasthenia gravis; cerebral palsy and other types of paralysis; intellectual, motor, and language developmental delays; muscular dystrophies and other muscle diseases; and mitochondrial encephalomyopathy, among others. In March 2012, our hospital established the "Children's Epilepsy Diagnosis and Treatment Center," which integrates the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery, with multidisciplinary participation from the Department of Radiology, Department of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, Department of Pharmacy, and Department of Genetics. Through a one-stop and multidisciplinary collaborative model for disease diagnosis and treatment, the center optimizes treatment processes to provide patients with optimal care and convenience. It offers ACTH therapy for infantile spasms, ketogenic diet therapy and management, rapamycin therapy for tuberous sclerosis, and epilepsy surgery, achieving satisfactory outcomes for affected children. Over the past two decades, the Department of Neurology at the Children's Medical Center has diligently worked in clinical services, scientific research, teaching, and talent cultivation, achieving significant results and playing an outstanding role in diagnosing and treating rare and complex cases.
