Department Details
As the medical model gradually shifts toward the bio-psycho-social medical model, the role of nutrition in disease prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and health care has become increasingly prominent. The saying "three parts treatment, seven parts nourishment" highlights that scientific, timely, and rational nutrition not only aids clinical treatment but is also key to "preventing disease before it occurs" and "treating pre-disease." Clinical nutrition is an important subspecialty within hospital clinical disciplines. It aims to enhance immune function and improve disease outcomes by controlling the intake of three major nutrients, as well as minerals and vitamins, thereby shortening hospital stays and promoting early recovery.
Our hospital currently has five dietitians, including one senior dietitian, three supervising dietitians, one master's degree holder, and three with national registered dietitian qualifications. They are responsible for nutritional screening, assessment, consultation, and education for inpatients, providing nutritional support for various lung diseases such as tuberculosis, tumors, pulmonary hypertension, and perioperative pulmonary conditions, as well as nutritional guidance and intervention for metabolic and chronic diseases including diabetes, gout, chronic kidney disease, and cardiovascular diseases. They also develop individualized dietary plans for critically ill patients and operate specialized nutrition clinics to offer nutritional guidance and consultation for various patient groups. In 2020, 95,006 nutritional screenings, 814 nutritional assessments, 3,253 nutritional education sessions, 37 nutrition clinic visits, 30,885 therapeutic diet orders, 997 oral nutritional supplementations, 2,753 enteral nutrition interventions, and 8,662 accelerated rehabilitation nutritional support cases through MDT participation were conducted.
