The Emergency Department of Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital, affiliated with Tongji University, specializes in the treatment of critical and acute respiratory diseases. After years of development and accumulation, the department now boasts strong hardware and software capabilities, with a well-structured talent echelon. It includes 3 senior and associate senior professional title holders, as well as several attending physicians and senior resident physicians, all holding master's degrees or above, including two with doctoral degrees. The department currently has 20 observation beds, 3 invasive ventilators, 13 non-invasive ventilators, and other commonly used equipment for emergency and critical respiratory care. The department primarily focuses on treating critical and acute respiratory conditions, serving patients from surrounding provinces such as Jiangsu and Zhejiang. Its specialized features include comprehensive treatment for hemoptysis and emergency management of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The department leads nationally in the number of interventional procedures for hemoptysis and cure rates, while non-invasive ventilation for ARDS is a hallmark of this specialized respiratory hospital. The team has extensive clinical experience in the diagnosis and emergency treatment of conditions such as acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, acute exacerbations of bronchial asthma, acute exacerbations of interstitial lung disease, severe pneumonia with ARDS, interventional treatment for massive hemoptysis, acute airway obstruction, coma due to pulmonary encephalopathy or tuberculous meningitis, cardiac dysfunction caused by cor pulmonale, and pulmonary vascular embolism. The Emergency Department team places a strong emphasis on academic research. Team members have led one research project funded by the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission, participated in one project funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and contributed to three municipal-level research projects in Shanghai, publishing multiple professional academic papers. In the 2021 China Hospital Science and Technology Value Rankings, the department ranked 16th in emergency medicine and 1st among specialized hospitals. It also serves as a training base for clinical physicians at Tongji University, with extensive experience in medical student education and standardized residency training. Through the collective efforts of the team, the department was honored with the "Best Service Window" award by the Shenkang Party Committee System in 2022.
