The Pulmonary Circulation Department is one of the largest diagnostic and treatment centers for pulmonary vascular diseases in China. It has been certified as a member unit of the Standardized System Construction Project for Pulmonary Hypertension Diagnosis and Treatment Centers in China and serves as the lead unit of the Shanghai Demonstration Regional Collaboration Group for Pulmonary Embolism and Pulmonary Vascular Disease Prevention and Treatment. Each year, the department admits nearly a thousand patients with pulmonary vascular diseases, with a treatment scale ranking among the top nationwide. The main scope of diagnosis and treatment includes various types of pulmonary vascular diseases, particularly pulmonary hypertension, acute and chronic pulmonary embolism, and cor pulmonale, while also addressing respiratory system diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchiectasis. Routinely performed procedures include the six-minute walk test, cardiopulmonary exercise testing, resting and exercise stress echocardiography, right heart magnetic resonance imaging, right heart catheterization, pulmonary angiography, inferior vena cava filter implantation, pulmonary balloon angioplasty (BPA), and percutaneous pulmonary thrombus aspiration.
All members of the Pulmonary Circulation team hold a master's degree or higher, with a doctoral degree ratio as high as 75%. The team includes 7 senior professional titles, 2 associate researchers, 2 doctoral supervisors, 7 master's supervisors, 1 professor, 2 associate professors, and 2 distinguished professors. The department undertakes over 30 international multicenter drug clinical trial projects for pulmonary vascular diseases and conducts research in genetics, pathology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and pulmonary function respiratory physiology related to pulmonary vascular diseases. To date, the department has published over 100 SCI papers, with relevant works appearing in top international journals in the field such as AJRCCM, HYPERTENSION, ERJ, and CHEST. It has also secured 1 National Key Research and Development Program, 9 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 2 Pujiang Talent Programs, and 1 Yangfan Program. The department is a clinical unit integrating medical care, teaching, and research.
