The Department of Stomatology at the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University is one of the six comprehensive affiliated hospital stomatology departments of Sun Yat-sen University, featuring a larger number of personnel and more comprehensive professional expertise. Leveraging the overall advantages of the First Affiliated Hospital while maintaining its own specialized characteristics, the department undertakes extensive clinical, teaching, and research work in stomatology for Sun Yat-sen University. 1. Department Organizational Structure: The Department of Stomatology is divided into two parts: the inpatient ward and the outpatient clinic. Based on disciplinary characteristics, it is organized into two specialties: Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Specialty, Specialty Director: Ding Xueqiang (see specialty introduction for details) Oral Medicine and Prosthodontics Specialty, Specialty Director: Yang Junying (see specialty introduction for details) 3. Medical Services: The Department of Stomatology has an average daily outpatient volume of approximately 300 visits. In addition to general outpatient services, professor, specialist, and specialty clinics are held weekly. Specialty clinics offered include: Endodontics, Periodontics, Oral Mucosal Diseases, Orthodontics, Precision Casting of Dentures, Precious Metal Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal Crowns, Maxillofacial Tumors, Maxillofacial Plastic Surgery, Dental Implants, Orthognathic Surgery, Oral Tumors, Salivary Gland Diseases, Maxillofacial Hemangiomas, and Temporomandibular Joint Disorders. 6. Teaching Activities: The department is qualified to recruit master's and doctoral graduate students. It has trained 17 master's graduates, currently has 21 master's students and 3 doctoral students enrolled. It undertakes theoretical and clinical teaching, observation, and internship responsibilities for seven-year program students and undergraduates of the Stomatology Department of Sun Yat-sen University, as well as undergraduates of the Medical Department. It is responsible for the continuing education and training of visiting scholars. It is the largest clinical teaching base for stomatology among the comprehensive hospitals of our university. Furthermore, our department has taken the lead in becoming one of the few teaching bases in the country qualified for specialized stomatology physician training. 7. Research Activities: In recent years, the medical staff of our department have actively applied for research grants and achieved gratifying results. They have undertaken a total of 37 provincial, ministerial, municipal, and district-level research projects, with cumulative funding exceeding 2.3 million yuan. They have published over 160 academic papers in journals at various levels and 2 academic monographs. 8.
