Evolving from the Male Infertility Specialty, it has consistently been a distinctive specialty of the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. As a professional institution for diagnosing and treating male diseases, the Reproductive Andrology Specialty utilizes advanced techniques such as integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine pharmacotherapy, surgical treatment, and assisted reproductive technologies (In Vitro Fertilization and Artificial Insemination) to manage male diseases including male infertility, sexual dysfunction, and prostatitis. The specialty currently employs two Associate Chief Physicians (Gao Yong, Liu Yafeng), both holding Doctorates in Urology and Andrology, with extensive experience in treating male diseases. **Clinical Work** **I. Scope of Diagnosed and Treated Diseases** 1. Male infertility, including oligospermia, asthenospermia, teratozoospermia, azoospermia, high sperm DNA fragmentation index, aspermia, semen liquefaction failure, necrospermia, cryptozoospermia, hemospermia, and other abnormal semen analysis findings. 2. Sexual dysfunction, including erectile dysfunction (impotence), premature ejaculation, low libido, retrograde ejaculation, anejaculation, and difficulty achieving ejaculation. 3. Male reproductive system infections and inflammations, including prostatitis, epididymitis, seminal vesiculitis, and orchitis. 4. Specialty Diagnostic and Therapeutic Techniques** 1. **Assisted Reproductive Technologies:** Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), In Vitro Fertilization-Embryo Transfer (IVF-ET), Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), and Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT). As one of the birthplaces of IVF technology in China, the Reproductive Medicine Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University was the first unit in China to perform ICSI and PGT, holding an internationally leading position in IVF technology. ICSI is particularly suitable for patients with severe oligoasthenoteratozoospermia and azoospermia. PGT is especially suitable for infertile patients with genetic diseases such as chromosomal translocations, thalassemia, and X-linked disorders. 2. **Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Diagnostic and Therapeutic Techniques:** Combining Western medical laboratory and imaging examinations with evidence-based medicine, and Traditional Chinese Medicine disease differentiation and syndrome differentiation, this approach allows for comprehensive assessment and precise diagnosis of male diseases. It utilizes a combination of Western and Chinese herbal medicines for treatment, offering advantages such as rapid onset of action, good efficacy, and addressing both symptoms and root causes. 3. **Treatment Techniques for Azoospermia:** Sperm can be retrieved from azoospermic patients through various sperm retrieval surgeries, including Testicular Sperm Aspiration (TESA), Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration (PESA), Testicular Sperm Extraction (TESE), and Microdissection Testicular Sperm Extraction (M-TESE). Subsequently, ICSI can be used to achieve biological offspring.
