**Basic Department Information:**
General Surgery is a National Key Clinical Specialty, with Hepatobiliary Surgery as one of its important branches. The department currently has 21 physicians, including 4 doctoral supervisors, 5 master's supervisors, 5 professors, 3 chief physicians, and 4 associate chief physicians. There are 3 lecturers/attending physicians. Among the staff, 19 hold a master's degree and 18 hold a doctoral degree. The department admits approximately 1,500 patients annually and performs over 1,000 surgical procedures. The bed utilization rate is 128.1%, the bed turnover rate is 36.4, and the average length of hospital stay for discharged patients is 14.9 days. The number of critical patient rescues is 42, with a rescue success rate of approximately 99%.
**Clinical Work:**
The department primarily treats patients with diseases of the liver, biliary tract, pancreas, and spleen, including benign and malignant tumors of the liver, bile ducts, pancreas, and gallbladder. Main conditions include primary liver cancer, cholangiocarcinoma, pancreatic cancer, gallbladder cancer, intrahepatic and extrahepatic bile duct stones, gallstones, benign pancreatic tumors, portal hypertension, appendicitis, and abdominal external hernias. The main clinical research areas are as follows:
1. Treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma complicated with cirrhotic portal hypertension
2. Exploration and evaluation of precise curative treatment techniques for hepatocellular carcinoma
3. Investigation of the efficacy and mechanism of Sorafenib combined with S-1 in treating primary liver cancer
4. Screening and functional analysis of tumor antigens that enhance immunity after microwave ablation of liver cancer
5. Precise hepatectomy for primary liver cancer using computer three-dimensional imaging technology
6. Exploration of molecular biomarkers for predicting the efficacy of Sorafenib in treating liver cancer
7. Investigation of the efficacy and mechanism of S-1 combined with Sorafenib in treating primary liver cancer
8. Clinical study on combined microwave and radiofrequency ablation for small liver cancer
9. Clinical study on the effect of peripheral blood regulatory T lymphocytes on anti-tumor immune response after liver cancer ablation
10. Analysis of the efficacy of hepatectomy for treating intrahepatic bile duct stones
**Scientific Research:**
In the past 5 years, our department has been awarded 9 National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) grants, 12 Guangdong Provincial Natural Science Foundation grants, and 3 Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Planning Project grants. We publish approximately 40 papers annually in domestic and international journals, including nearly 20 SCI-indexed papers, and edit 1-2 monographs. Major research projects initiated in the last 3 years include: Study on reducing recurrence after liver cancer ablation by eliminating Gr1+CD11b+ myeloid-derived suppressor cells combined with intratumoral injection of immune microspheres during microwave ablation (NSFC).

**Personnel Training:**
The department recruits 3-5 doctoral students and 5-7 master's students annually. Currently, there are 8 doctoral students and 9 master's students. We also accept 15-20 visiting physicians each year. Additionally, the department undertakes teaching responsibilities including large lectures for undergraduate English and Chinese classes, as well as clerkship courses for undergraduate classes, serving as one of the main bases for surgical internships.
