Department Details

The Gastrointestinal Tumor Translational Research Laboratory, under the leadership of Professor Ji Jiafu, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, adheres to a clinical problem-oriented approach in basic translational research on gastric cancer. Leveraging clinical cohorts of gastric cancer, the laboratory conducts multi-dimensional spatiotemporal dynamic characterization of the evolutionary process of gastric cancer, explores novel therapeutic strategies, and develops artificial intelligence models. Currently, the team comprises 11 scientific research and technical personnel, including 2 with senior professional titles, 2 with associate senior titles, 2 with intermediate titles, 4 with junior titles, and over 10 master's and doctoral students. This includes: 1. Utilizing high-level standardized clinical cohorts for gastric cancer diagnosis and treatment, employing multi-omics approaches such as genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics to screen molecular markers closely associated with malignant phenotypes and therapeutic prognosis of gastric cancer, and identifying therapeutic targets with clinical application potential. 2. Conducting single-cell-level spatiotemporal transcriptomic analysis to comprehensively characterize the distinctive microecology of gastric cancer, exploring the dynamic regulation among various cellular components and organs under the pressure of gastric cancer development and treatment. 3. Establishing novel in vitro models of gastric cancer and building a platform for screening antitumor drugs. Department Director, Academician Ji Jiafu, has led the development of 23 guidelines and consensus documents, including China's first clinical practice guideline for gastric cancer and the National Health Commission's gastric cancer diagnosis and treatment guidelines. He has authored 18 monographs, including the world's first English-language monograph on gastric cancer; founded the *Chinese Journal of Cancer Research*, which is indexed in SCI; holds 20 authorized patents; and has obtained one national Class I new drug certificate. He has received awards such as the Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Progress Award, and the National Science and Technology Progress Award (Second Class). The laboratory collaborates across disciplines with the clinical team of the Gastrointestinal Tumor Center, Peking University School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Basic Medical Sciences, School of Computer Science, and others, achieving synergistic innovation and complementary advantages. This has resulted in a series of collaborative outcomes in areas such as gastric cancer microenvironment analysis and regulatory mechanisms, drug sensitivity model construction, development of new therapeutic targets, and artificial intelligence predictive model development. These findings have been published in journals including *JAMA*, *Lancet*, *Science*, *Cell*, *Lancet Oncology*, *Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy*, *Molecular Cancer*, *Gut Microbes*, *Nucleic Acids Research*, *Cancer Communications*, and *Advanced Science*. Among these, there are 9 highly cited papers, with a total of 27,066 citations. The laboratory has successively undertaken projects such as the National Key Research and Development Program, key projects of the Joint Fund of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the "863" Program, and the major special project of the Science and Technology Innovation 2030 "Four Major Chronic Diseases."
