Department Details

The Department of Blood Transfusion at Peking University Cancer Hospital is a medical technology department within the hospital. Its predecessor was the Blood Bank Specialty Group under the Department of Clinical Laboratory, established when the hospital was founded in 1995. To meet the needs of the hospital's rapid development and disciplinary construction, it was formally established as an independent sub-department in 2005. Adhering to modern management concepts, the department is dedicated to providing safe, timely, and qualified blood products for clinical surgeries, treatments, and emergency care throughout the hospital, establishing a comprehensive quality management system for clinical blood use, promoting scientific and rational blood use, and developing related blood therapy technologies. I. Development History In September 1995, Beijing Cancer Hospital was inaugurated and opened. The Department of Clinical Laboratory established the Blood Bank Specialty Group, with Wan Wenhui serving as the Director of the Department of Clinical Laboratory and Zhang Chunrong as the Specialty Group Leader. In June 2005, the Department of Blood Transfusion became independent as a sub-department, with Ren Jun, Director of the Department of Internal Medicine, concurrently serving as the Director of the Department of Blood Transfusion. In February 2009, Zhang Chunrong was appointed Deputy Director of the Department of Blood Transfusion. From August 2012 to the present, Sun Wei has served as the Director of the Department of Blood Transfusion. II. Medical Work Since its growth alongside the hospital in 1995, the Department of Blood Transfusion has undergone a leapfrog development from a basic blood bank to a modern specialized department. The department's testing items have become increasingly comprehensive, covering ABO/Rh blood typing, antibody screening and identification, difficult blood typing, difficult cross-matching, thromboelastography testing, and platelet antibody testing. The scope of services has also expanded from single allogeneic blood transfusion to include autologous blood component collection using blood cell separators, autologous stem cell collection and cryopreservation, precursor cell collection for cell therapy, plasma exchange, and PRP collection, effectively supporting the hospital's clinical blood use and transfusion therapy needs, which have grown by 10%-30% annually. The department consistently prioritizes quality and safety, establishing a comprehensive quality management system. It has been rated as "Excellent" for many consecutive years in the National External Quality Assessment for Blood Transfusion Compatibility Testing. Simultaneously, relying on the hospital's Blood Transfusion Management Committee, it has built a hospital-wide blood transfusion quality management system. Through standardized regulations, performance assessment, quarterly briefings, and information technology construction, it continuously improves the safety and efficacy of clinical blood use. III. Teaching and Research Work The department places high importance on talent cultivation and team building, enhancing staff professional competence through various methods such as intra-departmental forums, skills assessments, continuing education programs, and external study assignments. Since 2015, it has successfully hosted multiple district- and county-level continuing education projects and has undertaken the training of interns, visiting scholars, and the blood transfusion training of all hospital medical staff. In terms of research, the department actively creates conditions for scientific research and encourages academic innovation. In recent years, its research capabilities have significantly improved. It has led or participated in multiple clinical studies and has published over twenty research papers in domestic core journals. IV. Department Culture and Honors The department focuses on fostering a harmonious atmosphere of "the department for everyone, and everyone for the department." Through the coordinated efforts of the Party, labor union, and Youth League, it organizes distinctive activities, forming a departmental culture characterized by law-abiding conduct, dedication to work, medical integrity, and unity and mutual assistance.
