The Department of Medical Imaging at Peking University Cancer Hospital is responsible for the hospital's medical imaging examinations, imaging diagnostics, and CT-guided puncture biopsies, with balanced development in clinical service, education, and research. The department currently has over 120 medical, technical, and nursing staff, including 17 with senior professional titles. The department is equipped with advanced imaging devices, including 8 CT scanners such as the ultra-high-end spectral CT (GE Revolution 256-slice) and the latest generation dual-source spectral CT (Siemens SOMATOM Force), as well as 8 MR scanners (3.0T and 1.5T), all equipped with artificial intelligence deep learning processing systems.
The department's clinical practice and scientific research in tumor diagnosis, precise staging, and efficacy evaluation are at the leading level domestically. The department innovatively applies magnetic resonance multiparametric imaging technology and artificial intelligence image analysis technology to advance the realization of precise tumor imaging diagnosis. It is at the forefront domestically and internationally in optimizing imaging techniques, precise diagnosis, and related research for gastric cancer and colorectal cancer. The department has undertaken multiple research projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Ministry of Science and Technology's Key Research and Development Program, and Beijing's Key Public Projects. To date, it has published over 500 papers in authoritative domestic and international journals, including a series of 9 research papers in the top-tier medical imaging journal *Radiology*, earning a strong reputation in the field of medical imaging. Research achievements have resulted in one Second Prize of the Beijing Science and Technology Progress Award, two Science and Technology Awards from the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, and one Third Prize of the Beijing Science and Technology Progress Award.
Professor Sun Yingshi, the department director, currently serves as the Chair of the Department of Imaging Medicine at Peking University Health Science Center and the Chair-elect of the Tumor Imaging Professional Committee of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association. Several experts in the department serve as members of the Radiology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association. They have compiled multiple guidelines, standards, and expert consensus on tumor imaging, promoting the improvement of tumor imaging examination and diagnostic levels nationwide.
The department currently has 3 professors, 6 associate professors, 4 doctoral supervisors, and 7 master's supervisors, having trained over 70 graduate students. For many years, the department has been dedicated to exploring tumor imaging teaching models, evolving tumor imaging education into a multi-level, multi-modal comprehensive teaching system. The project "Construction and Implementation of a Professional Talent Training Model Based on a Single-Disease Tumor Imaging Database" won the Second Prize of the Peking University Teaching Achievement Award. Several professors have received the title of Outstanding Teacher from Peking University Health Science Center or the Cancer Hospital. In 2017, the department was approved as a standardized residency training base for radiology in Beijing, undertaking the task of training high-level young imaging physicians. From 2015 to 2025, it has successfully hosted the national continuing education program "Advanced Seminar on Standardized Tumor Imaging Examination and Precise Diagnosis" for multiple consecutive years, providing a platform for multidisciplinary development and exchange for tumor imaging professionals and researchers, thereby promoting the construction of tumor imaging disciplines and advancing the development of tumor imaging in China.
