As a benchmark department in the field of gastrointestinal tumor diagnosis and treatment in China, Ward IV of the Gastrointestinal Oncology Center at Peking University Cancer Hospital has adhered to the core development philosophy of "Precision Diagnosis and Treatment, Minimally Invasive Leadership, and Discipline Integration" since its establishment. It has built a high-level diagnosis and treatment platform integrating medical care, education, and research. The department was founded in 2009 by Professor Su Xiangqian, a renowned gastrointestinal surgery expert in China. It was the first minimally invasive gastrointestinal oncology surgery department in a national cancer specialty hospital, pioneering the standardized treatment of minimally invasive surgery for gastrointestinal tumors in China.

The department proficiently performs various types of minimally invasive gastrointestinal tumor surgeries, achieving an organic unity of radical tumor resection and minimally invasive functional preservation. Simultaneously, it has accumulated extensive experience in neoadjuvant therapy, conversion therapy, and comprehensive treatment for advanced tumors, significantly improving patient survival rates. In recent years, the department has routinely performed various types of robotic minimally invasive surgeries using the latest robotic surgical systems. Leveraging the magnified three-dimensional vision and precise, flexible robotic arms of these systems, it achieves precise tumor resection and functional preservation, providing patients with safer and more precise cutting-edge surgical options.

It currently comprises 4 Chief Physicians, 6 Associate Chief Physicians, 6 Attending Physicians, 1 Principal Investigator, and 2 Associate Principal Investigators, all holding doctoral degrees.
