The Second Ward of the Gastrointestinal Tumor Center was established in October 2014. It boasts an outstanding team dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, and research of gastrointestinal tumors, specializing in surgery and comprehensive treatment for advanced gastrointestinal tumors, function-preserving surgery for early gastric cancer, and sphincter-preserving surgery for low rectal cancer. The main diseases treated include gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, gastrointestinal stromal tumors, and other rare gastrointestinal tumors. Based on multidisciplinary discussions, the most reasonable diagnosis and treatment plan is formulated and implemented for each patient. Under the direct leadership of Professor Ji Jiafu, the department upholds the fine traditions of Peking University Cancer Hospital, pursues excellence, and continuously progresses. It has achieved gratifying results in clinical practice, scientific research, and teaching, maintaining a steady and rigorous work style while embarking on a path of rapid development. Department Personnel Structure: 1. Personnel Composition: 4 chief physicians, 6 associate chief physicians, 8 attending physicians, 3 resident physicians, and 21 nursing staff. 2. Key Department Leadership: The Director of the Gastrointestinal Tumor Center is Professor Ji Jiafu, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a renowned oncology expert in China. The Department Director is Bu Zhaode, and the Head Nurse is Zhao Min. Department Features Include: Minimally invasive surgery, precision surgery, complex surgery, function-preserving surgery, enhanced recovery after surgery, and comprehensive patient management. An overview of clinical, scientific research, and teaching work is as follows: 1. Clinical Work: The department currently handles nearly 13,000 outpatient visits annually and admits nearly 1,000 inpatients per year. Department Director Bu Zhaode serves as the Chairman of the Colorectal Disease Committee of the China International Exchange and Promotive Association for Medical and Health Care and the Chairman of the Gastric Cancer Professional Committee of the Beijing Anti-Cancer Association. Based on standardized treatment, the department promotes individualized treatment and precision medicine for gastrointestinal tumors. Starting from clinical research, it designs and leads high-level multicenter clinical studies to address unresolved clinical issues in gastrointestinal tumors. 2. Scientific Research: The department focuses on basic and clinical translational research on gastrointestinal tumors. Topics include the immune landscape and microenvironment characterization of gastric cancer, immune classification of gastric cancer, characteristics of lymph node metastasis in early gastric cancer and predictive model construction, prediction of immunotherapy efficacy in gastric cancer, and immunotherapy research for advanced and unresectable gastric cancer. Research content covers gastrointestinal tumors at all stages, from preoperative neoadjuvant chemotherapy, radical surgery, and postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy to conversion therapy. Research levels range from single-cell molecular signals and histological levels to comprehensive coverage of patient clinical parameters and prognosis, aiming to fully understand the mechanisms of gastrointestinal tumor occurrence, progression, and metastasis, and to identify research outcomes that can be translated into clinical practice. The ultimate goal of the research is to use existing technical methods to solve clinical problems and translate research findings into clinical applications that benefit patients. 3. Teaching Work: The department recruits and trains doctoral and master's degree students. It regularly organizes national and regional continuing education programs to promote standardized diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal tumors. The department also accepts visiting physicians from across the country to improve the diagnostic and treatment capabilities of gastrointestinal tumor specialists nationwide.
