Ward 1 of the Gastrointestinal Tumor Center is a surgical clinical ward specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of gastric cancer, as well as colon and rectal cancer. The academic leader is Academician Ji Jiafu. Adhering to the principle of individualized patient treatment, the ward conducts routine multidisciplinary team (MDT) discussions, actively promotes minimally invasive and standardized surgeries for gastrointestinal tumors, emphasizes comprehensive therapy, and advocates humanized services. It currently has 29 beds and performs nearly 800 surgeries annually. The ward focuses on the research of key technical systems for comprehensive treatment of gastrointestinal tumors and the construction and translation of a full-cycle biospecimen resource platform. It has undertaken numerous major projects, including the National Science and Technology Major Project for Four Major Chronic Diseases, the "Eleventh Five-Year" and "Twelfth Five-Year" Support Programs, and the Regional Joint Key Project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Over 200 papers have been published in SCI journals such as JAMA, The Lancet Oncology, Nature Medicine, Science, and Cell. Achievements have received scientific and technological awards, including the Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the First Prize of the Science and Technology Award of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, the First Prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award of the Ministry of Education, and the First Prize of the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award. The team has led the development of the National Health Commission's guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of gastric cancer, regularly organizes national continuing education training courses, and serves as a National International Joint Research Center, a "Belt and Road" International Joint Training Center for Cancer Prevention and Treatment of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, a Joint Training Center for Multidisciplinary Comprehensive Treatment of Gastrointestinal Tumors of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association and the Chinese Medical Association Surgery Branch, a National Demonstration Center for MDT Training in Digestive Tract Tumors, and a Continuing Education Center of the International Association of Surgeons, Gastroenterologists, and Oncologists (IASGO CME Center).
