Department Details

Our hospital's Department of Radiation Oncology was established in 1993 and is the largest lung cancer radiotherapy center nationwide. In recent years, the annual outpatient volume has reached over 60,000 visits, with nearly 5,000 patients receiving radiotherapy for lung malignancies annually. The department boasts a professional technical team comprising over 60 medical staff, including physicians, nurses, medical physicists, and radiation therapists. It includes 2 chief physicians, 5 deputy chief physicians, 1 professor, 1 associate professor, and 2 doctoral supervisors. A precision radiotherapy laboratory for lung cancer is currently under preparation. The level of lung cancer diagnosis and treatment is domestically leading, enabling routine diagnostic procedures such as CT-guided lung tumor puncture and fiberoptic bronchoscopy biopsy. It also routinely performs cutting-edge international lung cancer radiotherapy techniques, including intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) based on four-dimensional CT of the chest, volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), and image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT) using PET/CT and MRI. The annual number of early-stage lung cancer patients receiving stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT) ranks first nationwide. Active clinical research is ongoing, with the department currently leading or participating in over 10 clinical studies on multidisciplinary comprehensive treatment centered on radiotherapy for lung cancer. Among these, 8 are domestic and international multicenter clinical trials combining targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and radiotherapy, including adjuvant immunotherapy after SBRT for early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), combined radiotherapy and immunotherapy for locally advanced NSCLC, and combined radiotherapy and immunotherapy for small cell lung cancer. The team has led 5 National Natural Science Foundation of China research projects, published over 200 professional academic papers, and obtained 9 national patents (including 5 invention patents, 3 utility model patents, and 1 design patent). Numerous research findings have been cited in current lung cancer diagnosis and treatment guidelines. Scientific achievements have contributed to or been awarded over 10 national and provincial/ministerial scientific research awards, including the National Science and Technology Progress Award and the Shanghai Anti-Cancer Science and Technology Award. The team has co-authored the "CSCO Consensus on Diagnosis and Treatment of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer," the "Chinese Clinical Guidelines for Radiotherapy of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (2020 Edition)," and the nation's first "Chinese Expert Consensus on Stereotactic Radiotherapy for Early-Stage Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (2019 Edition)." Active domestic and international exchanges and collaborations are conducted, with multiple high-level academic conferences organized. The "Yeyuan Lung Cancer Radiotherapy Salon" has been established to enhance academic exchanges and experience sharing with peers in the field both domestically and internationally. Each year, the department organizes two national-level continuing medical education programs on precision radiotherapy and multidisciplinary comprehensive treatment for lung cancer. Leveraging the department's advantage in single-disease treatment of lung cancer, it offers the "Lung Cancer Radiotherapy Target Delineation Training Course" and the "Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT) Training Course for Early-Stage Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer," which have received unanimous praise from participants. Team members have presented at top international conferences multiple times. All medical staff in our hospital's Department of Radiation Oncology will uphold the Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital's tradition of patient-centered care and medical quality as the core, carry forward the spirit of the times characterized by innovation, collaboration, and dedication, continuously strive for progress, provide efficient and high-quality medical services for lung cancer patients, and work towards building a world-renowned and domestically first-class specialty in lung cancer radiotherapy!
