The ocular surface disease discipline has 9 professional physicians with senior titles. There are 6 chief physicians and 3 associate chief physicians, including 3 doctoral supervisors and 3 master's supervisors. The discipline leader is Professor Gong Lan. The discipline is one of the largest diagnosis and treatment centers for ocular surface diseases in East China and the location of the Shanghai Red Cross Eye Bank. It is the unit where the Cornea Disease Group of the Ophthalmology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association serves as deputy head and the Cornea Disease Group of the Shanghai Ophthalmology Society serves as head. More than 500 cases of various types of corneal transplantation are performed each year. It is in a leading domestic position in new corneal transplantation technologies and has completed the first domestic case of Descemet's stripping assisted corneal endothelial transplantation; in the clinical application research of new technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of dry eye disease, it has received extensive attention from domestic and foreign experts and has been invited to participate in the writing of the second edition of the report guidelines of the National Dry Eye Working Group. It carries out comprehensive treatment of chemical injuries, including conjunctival transplantation, limbal stem cell transplantation, and tissue-engineered oral mucosal epithelial ocular surface reconstruction and other advanced treatment methods. This discipline has received awards at various levels for multiple innovative works in the fields of corneal transplantation and the diagnosis and treatment of ocular surface diseases. Among them, "Innovation and Standardized Research on New Technologies for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Corneal Diseases" won the Second Prize of the Outstanding Achievement Award of Higher Education Institutions of the Ministry of Education, and "Basic and Clinical Application of Component Corneal Transplantation Surgery" and "Basic and Clinical Research on Dry Eye Disease" respectively won the Third Prize of the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award. 　　This discipline also undertakes the standardized training of refresher doctors, graduate students, and resident doctors, and carries out clinical and basic research related to ocular surface diseases. At present, it undertakes multiple projects such as key projects of clinical disciplines of the Ministry of Health, National Natural Science Foundation projects, and projects of the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission and the Shanghai Municipal Health Bureau. In the past three years, more than 60 authoritative papers have been published in domestic and foreign professional journals.
