The discipline of ocular oncology, orbital diseases, and oculoplastic surgery is one of the leading teams in this field in China. The current academic leader is Professor Qian Jiang, Director of the Department of Ophthalmology at our hospital and doctoral supervisor. He is currently a member of the Oculoplastic and Orbital Disease Group of the Chinese Ophthalmological Society, an executive committee member of the Asia-Pacific Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, a member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and Deputy Head of the Retinoblastoma Group of the Ophthalmology Branch of the Cross-Strait Medical and Health Exchange Association. The discipline currently has 1 doctoral supervisor and 4 master's supervisors. Under the leadership of Professor Qian Jiang, as early as 2006, the team pioneered comprehensive eye-preserving treatment for retinoblastoma in China, and has now acquired all treatment modalities including interventional chemotherapy, intraocular chemotherapy, genetic screening, and genetic counseling. It is the only ophthalmic center in China performing proton and heavy ion therapy for uveal melanoma, and also provides personalized treatments such as local resection, transpupillary thermotherapy, and plaque radiotherapy for uveal melanoma. The Thyroid Eye Disease Center carries out various pharmacological and targeted therapies, and is one of the largest centers for orbital decompression surgery, strabismus surgery, and eyelid surgery. Meanwhile, the discipline has consistently explored and practiced in the diagnosis and treatment of various complex ocular tumors including orbital vascular malformations, lacrimal sac carcinoma, lacrimal gland tumors, conjunctival PAM, and eyelid tumors, as well as in ocular-related plastic surgeries such as orbital fracture repair, ocular prosthesis, and periorbital rejuvenation, receiving widespread attention and full recognition from the academic community. The team has always been problem-oriented, prioritizing patient interests, focusing on academic frontiers, advancing through exploration, and developing through standardization.
