The Department of Radiology at Renji Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine is a National Key Clinical Specialty, a Key Discipline of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, a Key Discipline of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, one of the first standardized residency and fellowship training bases in Shanghai, a doctoral degree granting program and a postdoctoral research station of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The department is distributed across five campuses of Renji Hospital—East, West, South, North, and Hangzhou Bay—with medical services covering the Yangtze River Delta region. The department is equipped with top-tier large-scale medical and research equipment, including hybrid operating rooms, multiple high-end 3.0T MR scanners, wide-detector spectral CT scanners, DSA machines, and a 7.0T small-animal MR scanner. Through the RIS-PACS system, all campuses are connected to enable remote diagnosis and treatment. The department is also equipped with intelligent AI-assisted diagnostic systems and cutting-edge image post-processing software, making routine imaging diagnosis more efficient and precise. The Department of Radiology offers specialized imaging consultation clinics, premium image reading services, and named expert examinations, providing patients with professional, refined, and personalized imaging examinations and diagnoses. In recent years, the Department of Radiology at Renji Hospital has been committed to becoming a new-type radiology department driven by teaching and research in molecular imaging, advanced functional imaging of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, medical imaging big data platforms, tumor radiomics, and artificial intelligence imaging research. It has formed two major distinctive subspecialties: integrated cardiovascular-cerebrovascular imaging (mainly including cerebrovascular disease and brain functional imaging, cardiovascular MRI, and carotid vessel wall MRI) and precision tumor imaging (mainly including multimodal MRI systems for brain tumors, spectral CT and functional MRI for lung tumors, high-resolution and magnetic resonance spectroscopy imaging for urological tumors, precision imaging and preoperative localization for breast tumors, hepatobiliary-specific contrast agents and free-breathing liver MRI in children, precision CT and MRI diagnostic imaging for gastrointestinal tumors, multimodal MRI evaluation for gynecological tumors, and imaging diagnosis and therapeutic response evaluation for malignant lymphoma). In addition, the department places particular emphasis on the clinical application and scientific research of infection- and inflammation-related imaging. Professor Zhou Yan, the current Director of the Department of Radiology, was elected in 2023 as the first Chairman of the Infection and Inflammation Imaging Professional Committee of the Shanghai Research Hospital Association. Over the years, the department has undertaken 35 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and more than 30 provincial and ministerial-level research projects. It has published over 600 articles in various journals, including more than 300 indexed by SCI(E)/EI, with many papers published in top international journals in the field (Radiology, Stroke, ATVB, etc.). The department has received numerous honors, including the Second and Third Prizes of the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award, the Second Prize of the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award, the Third Prize of the Huaxia Medical Science and Technology Award, and the Second Prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award of the Ministry of Education. It has served as chief editor for monographs including "Knee Joint MRI Diagnosis," "Rheumatologic Imaging," "CT Diagnosis of Diffuse Lung Disease," "Abdominal Imaging Anatomy Atlas," and "Imaging Diagnosis and Clinical Application of Crohn's Disease," and has participated as co-editor in more than 30 books. The department has obtained more than 10 domestic or international invention patents and software copyrights. The Department of Radiology currently has 3 doctoral supervisors and 5 master's supervisors, with over 90% of physicians holding a master's degree or above. It not only undertakes the teaching tasks for undergraduate, eight-year medical program, and Shanghai-Ottawa Joint Medical College students at Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, but also is responsible for the training of graduate students, residents, fellows, and visiting physicians, as well as continuing education programs in imaging medicine. It regularly holds "Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technology and New Advances Training Courses," "New Techniques, New Methods, and Clinical Applications of Neuroimaging Training Courses," and "Tumor Imaging Diagnosis and New Technology Application Training Courses."
