The Department of Nuclear Medicine at Peking University Third Hospital was established in 1972, founded by Professor Chen Man. After more than 50 years of development, under the leadership of Professor Chen Man, Professor Yang Yongzhen, Professor Zhang Yanyan, and Professor Zhang Weifang, it has now become a modern nuclear medicine department with comprehensive service categories, advanced equipment, and coordinated development of medical care, education, research, and discipline construction. Currently, the department has 25 staff members on duty, with a well-established team of physicians, technologists, and nurses. Over 80% of the diagnostic physicians hold doctoral degrees. In terms of hardware, the department is equipped with the most advanced positron and single-photon imaging devices: 1 PET/CT, 1 PET/MRI, 2 SPECT/CT systems, and 1 small-animal Micro CT/PET/SPECT system. The department has achieved informatized and digitalized management of nuclear medicine imaging, as well as self-service retrieval of diagnostic reports and imaging films. Leveraging the advanced equipment platform, the department can provide more than 50 types of nuclear medicine molecular imaging examinations. Positron imaging includes PET/CT and PET/MRI imaging with various molecular probes, including FDG imaging, such as PSMA, FAPI, somatostatin receptor, cerebral amyloid-β deposition, and myocardial metabolism imaging. In terms of single-photon imaging, the department can perform dozens of imaging studies, including brain, thyroid, parathyroid, cardiac, pulmonary, renal, bone, salivary gland, and gastrointestinal imaging. In addition, the department offers various radionuclide therapies, including iodine-131 therapy for hyperthyroidism, strontium-89 therapy for bone metastases, and radium-223 therapy for bone metastases from prostate cancer. To date, the department has completed over 350,000 nuclear medicine imaging diagnostic cases and more than 10,000 radionuclide therapy cases, fully meeting clinical requirements for nuclear medicine imaging examinations of various diseases. It has formed a specialized team characterized by expertise in evaluating orthopedic diseases, hematological malignancies, rheumatic and autoimmune diseases, and prostate cancer. The department has also been equipped with an advanced radiopharmaceutical synthesis platform, which will contribute to the high-quality development of both the department and the hospital. The Department of Nuclear Medicine at Peking University Third Hospital is a master's degree conferring site for Imaging and Nuclear Medicine, a standardized residency training base, and a specialist physician standardized training base. Several faculty members of the department have successively received honors such as the Outstanding Teacher Award of Peking University Third Hospital, the Third Prize in the Young Faculty Lecture Competition, the "Top Ten Resident Physicians" of Peking University Health Science Center, and the Third Prize in the Resident Case Report Competition.
