The Department of Urology is a key specialty department in our hospital. Its establishment received the care and support from the founders of pediatric urology in China, and several top experts in the field have worked here successively. After decades of continuous development, the department currently has 50 beds and serves as the chair unit of the Urology Specialty Alliance of the National Children's Medical Center. The department is staffed with 4 chief physicians, 3 attending physicians, and several resident physicians. Among the medical team, 5 hold doctoral degrees and 2 hold master's degrees. The department receives over 40,000 outpatient visits annually from across the country and performs nearly 5,000 surgeries. Its expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of common diseases such as congenital ureteropelvic junction obstruction, hypospadias, and penile deformities; surgical treatment of urogenital tumors; correction of severe urinary system malformations; and management of urinary tract stones has reached advanced levels both domestically and internationally. In clinical practice, the department adheres to the principle of minimally invasive procedures, actively performing various endoscopic surgeries such as laparoscopy, urethroscopy, cystoscopy, flexible and rigid ureteroscopy, and percutaneous nephroscopy to reduce trauma and pain in pediatric patients and accelerate recovery. It has taken the lead nationwide in implementing ureteral balloon dilation technology for the non-surgical treatment of hydronephrosis. The department was the first in China to develop and clinically apply testicular prostheses, filling a gap in this field. For issues related to lumbosacral spine and pelvic floor dysfunction in children, it explores urodynamic diagnosis and treatment. Combining abnormalities in pediatric urination and defecation, it conducts comprehensive treatments such as biofeedback therapy. Considering the characteristics of pediatric diseases and physiological features, it performs sacral neuromodulation for urinary and fecal abnormalities, making it the only specialized hospital in China proficient in this technique. The department's level of diagnosis and treatment for pediatric reproductive system diseases ranks among the top in the country, and it serves as the chair unit of the Adolescent Andrology Group of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association and the Urological Minimally Invasive Group of the Chinese Maternal and Child Health Association. While carrying out clinical work, the department also undertakes national and local scientific research projects, with research funding of approximately 10 million yuan. It has obtained 2 national invention patents and more than 10 utility model patents. Hundreds of papers have been published in renowned domestic and international journals, ranking first in the same field nationwide. As a National Children's Medical Center, the department is responsible for the continuing education of doctors from across the country, as well as the standardized training of medical students. Currently, the department has 2 doctoral supervisors and has trained dozens of outstanding master's and doctoral graduates, continuously supplying reserve talent for the national healthcare system.
